thehometownof7'1''NBAcenter,JoelPrzybilla.There'sonlyabout
7,000peopleinthetown,soitwasabigdealwhenheturnedpro.I
graduatedwithhissister,whowasalsoquitetall.
In1997,IreceivedmyundergraduatedegreeinEnglishWritingfrom
WinonaStateinWinona,MN.Manyofyoumayknowthisalready,but
Winonawasthebirthplaceoffamousshoplifter,WinonaRyder.Iguess
thereareworsethingsforwhichtobeknown.
In2000,IreceivedmyMastersinHumanitiesfromtheUniversityof
Chicago.AfterImatriculated,IstayedonattheUniversityofChicago
for5yearsworkingforanotforprofitgroupcalledCUIP(ChicagoPublic
Schools|UniversityofChicagoInternetProject),whereItrainedboth
publicschoolteachersandtheirstudentsinhowtousetechnologyin
theclassroom.
Throughoutmyprofessionallife,Iveworkedinavarietyoffields
includingretail,publishing,instructionaldesign,technology,and
academics.

Course Society,Ethics,andTechnologyisaninterdisciplinarycoursethattakesa
Description liberalarts/socialsciencesapproachtotechnologyandfunctionsasa
capstoneforgeneraleducation.Itinvestigatestherelationshipbetween
society,culture,andtechnologythroughreadings,reflection,research,and
reports.Thecourseidentifiesconditionsthathavepromotedtechnological
developmentandassessesthesocial,political,environmental,cultural,and
economiceffectsofcurrenttechnology.Issuesofcontrolandethical
considerationsintheuseoftechnologyareprimary.Discussion,aswellas
oralandwrittenreports,drawstogetherstudentspriorlearninginboth
