1. This Defence Standard specifies the basic requirements for bead profiles for
aircraft piping and ducting for Ministry of Defence use.
2. This Standard has been agreed by authorities concerned. It is to be
implemented, wherever practicable, in all designs, contracts, orders, etc
commencing after its date of publication. If a difficulty arises which
prevents application of the Defence Standard, the Directorate of
Standardization shall be informed so that a remedy can be sought.
3. Any enquiries regarding this Standard in relation to an invitation to tender
or a contract in which it is invoked are to be addressed to the responsible
technical or supervising authority named in that invitation to tender or
contract.

SPECIFICATION FOR
BEAD PROFILE FOR AIRCRAFT PIPING AND DUCTING
(FLEXIBLE CONNECTIONS)

1. SCOPE

This Standard covers the basic dimensional requirements for the bead profile
type of connection used for the purpose of coupling components or effecting
joints in piping or ducting.
2. RELATED DOCUMENTS

2.1 Reference is made in this Standard to:

BS M46 'Tubing outside diameters and thicknesses'

BS L100 'Procedure for inspection and testing of wrought aluminium


and aluminium alloys'

BS T100 'Procedure for inspection and testing of steel tubes'

2.2 Reference in this Defence Standard to any related document means, in any
tender or contract, the edition current at the date of such tender or
contract, unless a specific issue is indicated.

3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Where beads are used for the purpose of connecting components or effecting
joints in piping or ducting, the profile of the mating pair of beads shall
conform to the dimensions shown in Fig 1 and/or Table A.

3.2 Where moulded rubber seals or metal sleeves are used to connect the mating
pair of beads, their internal design shall conform to the profile dimensions
given in Fig 1.

3.3 The sizes of piping and ducting beaded to the dimensions shown in Fig 1 shall
be limited to those listed in BS M46.
