Training and drills

Ships personnel already have designated position and duties in the event of
shipboard emergencies such as fire, abandon ship or pollution.

The SSP provide for equivalent security duties as well:


Inspection, control and monitoring of restricted area
Inspection, control and monitoring of key shipboard operation
Inspection, control and monitoring of visitor on board
Detection and identification of weapon, and other dangerous
substances and device on board
Operation of security equipment
Physical search methods of person, baggage, cargoes and ship stores

At least once every three months or where more than 25% of the ships
personnel has been changed at any one time, with personnel that has not
previously participated in any drill on that ship, within the last 3 months.
A drill should be conducted within one week of the change.

The SSO in compliance with the policies set by CSO, is responsible for drill,
training schedule onboard.

SECURITY EQUIPMENT
Padlocks for securing restricted areas
Passes for visitors onboard
CCTV for monitoring restricted areas
X-ray machines for inspection of luggage and store.
Metal detector, explosive detectors

CONTIGENCY MEASURES AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

BOMB TREAT
On receipt of a bomb threat against the vessel, the applicable
procedures in the ssp must be fallowed. These must include
Assigning personnel to search designated areas of the ship.
Outlining what to do if a suspicious package is found
Fallow the rules Eyes not Hand

BOMB TREAT IN PORT


The Master, the SSO and the Port security Officials will liaise, arrive at a
collection decision and initiate appropriate action. Options may include
evacuation of the ship or removal of the vessel to an anchorage.
EVACUATION OF THE SHIP
If it is required to evacuate the ship as a result of a bomb treat or
similar terrorist act, this should be done in accordance with the procedures
outlined in the SSP.(during evacuation, may use life boat).

RESPONSE TO SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY


If your ship is approached by small vessel, which does not identify
itself, it could be carrying terrorist or pirate. It is preferable to stop them
getting onboard if all possible and high pressure fire house directed from
the deck can be effective deterrent.

ACTIONS TO TAKE WHEN ENTERING HOSTLE WATER


If your vessel is about to enter an area known for terrorist or pirate
activity, there are a number of basic precaution that can be taken.
If possible, only transit this area during daylight
If transiting during hours of darkness, keep all deck light and flood
lights switched on consistent with safe navigation.
Transit with maximum safe speed
Post extra lookout on the bride and increase radar surveillance
Post additional personnel both as extra lookouts in other areas
and to make rounds
Have fire hoses pressurized ready the ships side

ACTION TO TAKE IF SHIP IS BOARDED BY PIRATES OR TERRORIST


If pirates or terrorist board your ship at sea, fallow the applicable
procedure as outlined in the ship security plan. These may include.
Raise the general alarm
Activate the ship security alert system
Do NOT confront the boarders; wait for outside help
