After viewing a video on Types of Soils: state what are the three types
of soil.
State the characteristics of the three types of soils.
Identify the features of the three types of soils.
Show an appreciation for rocks and soils by fulfilling an experiment.

2. Previous Knowledge/skill
Students should be aware that rocks play an important role in the
formation of soil.

Soil samples of the three types
Plastic bags
Gloves
Water
Funnel
Containers
Seeds

7. Introduction:
Students will view a Video Presentation on Types of soils.
Students will state what is types of soils were identified.

8. Development/Procedure

Step 1. Discussion

After the video presentation, teacher will have an oral discussion based on the
findings the students observed in the video and what new information they
gathered.
Step 2. Definition and explanation

Definition of terms and characteristics of terms will be given also.

Step 3. Experimentation
Students will Observe plant growth rate in different soil types and record findings
and fill out and activity sheet.
9. Closure
Teacher will let 2 students recap the lesson and say what they have learned.

10. Students Evaluation/Assessment


Plant 3 separate plants with each plant planted with a different soil type. Observe for
3-4 weeks and record which plant grows the fastest and state why.

11. Follow-up
Students will be given a revision exercise to see how much they remember about soil.
