CREATING AN ALTERED BOOK:

TAKE A TOUR OF ANCIENT EGYPT
The basic premise of an altered book is to take an old book and alter it
by either adding to or taking away from the original pages of text. Some
altered book methods include: paper dolls, rebus, maze, cross-word puzzle,
word sear ch, cut aways/overlapping pages, folders & envelopes, collage,
etc.
For this altered book project, you will research different aspects of the
society of Ancient Egypt. Then you will present these ideas VISUALLYthat
means that you will be using symbolic representation for your ideas. You will
then give the reader of your book (i.e., Mr.Durling, peers, your parents,
etc.) an oral tour of each entry, using the images that you included as cues
for the facts that you learned about the topic.

Mediterranean Sea, The Dead Sea, The Nile River and the Delta, Africa,
Rome, Greece, Crete, Cyprus, Red Land, Pyramids and Temples at Giza,

Include a thematic border, hieroglyphics, important cultural symbols and

PYRAMID OF POWER & WEALTH

Draw the imaginary pyramid that was used to represent the hierarchy of
power and importance among Ancient Egyptians: Pharaoh (and royal
family), Pharaohs Advisors/Nobles (chief priests, governors, & generals),
Wealthy Middle Class (scribes, doctors, merchants, & tax collectors), Skilled
Workers (farmers, soldiers, performers, artists, & craftsmen), and Unskilled

roles that these people play in AE society.
