CO2 Injection
Multiple Visualizations with Dynagrid
This model was running using GEM and it is a pattern CO2 flood in an 8x8 aerial reservoir with two
producers and two injectors. This example had a Dynagrid option activated in order to reduce the
running time and increase the accuracy of the results.
CO2 compositions are monitored in the produced stream and termination is based on a CO2
threshold molar fraction.
Open CMG Launcher and go to "..\Results 3D\CO2 Flood". Drag and drop the
CO2_Flood_Dyna.irf file onto Results3D icon.
You should now see the image of the reservoir in 2-D areal view.
Click on the Properties button located in the Standard toolbar. Another option to
access is using the Menu Bar, select "View" and then "Properties"
You should now see the following windows:

Window.
Go to Menu Bar, select View and then New View. Repeated those steps two times
more. In total you need 4 views.
In Menu Bar go to Window and select Tile horizontally option.
Select top-left view and change the property shown to Global Mole Fraction(CO2), on
top-right view select Gas Saturation, bottom-left view Oil Saturation and bottom-
right Oil viscosity.
Select again the top-left view. Go to View in the Menu Bar and select Synchronize
Views. Select all option to synchronize except Property. Click OK.
In tool bar on top, go to Plot Type selection list and select Contour Fill.
Now, you can animate the simulation and you should see the image as shown in the picture
You could save a template, go to File/Save Template As and save into a correct
directory and select your own file name (e.g.:co2_flood_dynagrid).
You can close RESULTS 3D now and open again with the template file. You should drag
and drop the file that you save onto RESULTS 3D icon from CMG Launcher (File

SAGD
"Slabs, Vectors and Color Scale Settings"
This model was running using STARS. It is a sector (14x71x20) model with homogenous properties
(Permeability and porosity), 3 pairs of horizontal wells. The top horizontal well in each pair, is
injecting steam and the bottom wells are oil producer (SAGD: Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage)
Open CMG Launcher and go to the folder "..\Results 3D\SAGD". Drag and drop the file "3
Pairs SAGD" onto Results3D icon.
Initially, you should see something similar to the following figure:
Using the tool bars on top, change the visualization property to "Temperature", in "Plot
Type Selection List" change from "Block Fill" to "Contour Fill" and change the "View
Type Selection List" to "3D View".
Rotate the model in such a way that wells show at the left of the screen, (see the following
figure)
Change the aspect ratio Z/X to 2 in the menu "View" and then "Aspect ratios and scale".
In menu View on top, go to "Paper Zoom Selection List" and change from whole page
to Full Window.
Click right mouse button over the grid and select Properties option.
Select Black Background & White Borders option in General category. Click on
Apply All.
Go to Titles and disable Show Titles option. Click on Apply All.

Go to menu "View" then "Color Scale" and "Set Color Scale" and adjust the maximum
value to 200 and minimum to 7. With this change every block above 200 C and below 7 C
will disappear. Click on OK
Right click on the Grid and select PropertiesA
Select Flow Vectors, and check on Show Vectors. Select Flux Oil RC, and check
on Scale vector length by log of property and Only show vectors in the following
range. Set vector range minimum at 1 and maximum at default value. Disable Use
Default Pen option. Click on OK and Rewind animation to 1998-01-01.
Restart animation and stop it at 2002-07-01. Right click and select Rotate (3D View).
Rotate the model in such a way that hole in the grid is shown in front of you (Cells
disappeared because the temperature is high than 200 C), zoom in and notice how oil flows
to the producer well (Vectors: Arrows shown direction of the oil movement) as shown in the
figure below.
