Year Four

Parent Information Evening

08 February 2017

General

Email (the best way to contact me) ellen.delaney@bne.catholic.edu.au

I will respond to emails Monday to Friday. I will not return emails sent over the weekend,
until the following week. You will always get a reply within 24 hours.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.
Please dont leave any concerns until our parent teacher meeting. I expect that if there
are any concerns or problems, that parents keep me informed. You can expect the same
from me.

Our assembly is now 22 February (Week 5)

We have had to change the date of assembly to accommodate the Year 6 classes who
will be attending camp.

Showcase evening will be held on Wednesday the 29th March

There was some confusion if the showcase evening would be held in addition to the parent
information night. It is definitely still going ahead. It is an exciting time for your child to
showcase all the wonderful work they have done over the term.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences (Term 2)

More information to come closer to the date.

Academic Reports (Term 2 and Term 4)

Any concerns about your childs academics will be brought to your attention before
reports are sent home.

Student banking day is a Tuesday

Not compulsory. It is your choice to do student banking. It has started back already.

Routines and Expectations

Mornings
Mornings are a very busy time for teachers. If you would like to meet with me, please email
to arrange a time.

Day starts 8.35 am, if your child is late they must go through the office
If your child is late to school, they must go through the office to get their bag tag scanned
in. Please do not bring your child up to the classroom.

Correct school uniform (checked day uniform, sports uniform on specialist days Music
and PE)
Including correct haircuts, shoes and socks. Students may wear sports uniform on Thursdays
and Fridays. If they wear their day uniform on Thursday (PE day), they will still be required to
participate in the PE lesson. This can be very uncomfortable in this weather.

Afternoons
The day concludes at 2:55pm. If you require to pick up your child early, you must do so
through the office. Please do not collect your child directly from the classroom.

School rules

Class Dojo

All students are expected to follow the school rules. Consequences for not following our school
rules will be enforced using the four steps. Parent contact is made if your child ends up on step
four (the office). Here is our class dojo (this is what students see every day):

Homework

15 mins every night (spelling/math tasks)

The tasks should only be taking your child 15 minutes to complete. If its taking longer,
please let me know and we will make other arrangements.

Due every Monday

Differentiated spelling tasks

(Soundwaves Text)
Students will learn between 5 and 10 words per week.

Neat and tidy setting out (example on blog)

Can be accessed on the blog (printing is not required)
If you cannot access the blog, please let me know and I will arrange printing for you. It
does not need to be printed out, I only need to see the weekly spelling/math tasks.

Reading is an expectation to be done with your child each night

Reading is not classified as homework, it is an expectation of all students. At this level, we
would expect your child to be reading for at least 15 minutes per night.

Home readers and handwriting (if required)

Some students will be required to complete additional home tasks.

Ways we communicate

Email/phone
I prefer to be contacted via email so that it is in writing, and I can follow it up efficiently.
You may contact me via phone (office: 3800 1854), but I will not be able to return your call
until after 3pm, or the next school day.

Blog
The blog will always be updated weekly, with a weekly overview. Parents are strongly
encouraged to check the blog at least once a week.

Twitter
Twitter is updated every day. Parents are strongly encouraged to check the twitter
account at least once a week. (@missedelaney)

Meetings Arranged
I am more than happy to meet with parents, if meetings are arranged at a time that suits
both of us. The best way to do this of course, is via email

Term outline (each term)

We aim to have this sent out by week 2 of each term. It will also be available on the class
blog (under curriculum & reporting)
