For Part II, you are asked to respond to THREE of the following quotes. What do
you think about it? Do you agree with it? Why or why not? How does it relate
specifically to you or your life? What makes it a good quote to live your life by?
Each response should be at least one paragraph.

1. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Yes, I do agree that it take ones consent to let someone make someone feel
inferior. If someone is put down by someone it is entirely up to them to get
themselves back up. There is no reason why anyone should let anyone keep
them down. The only power someone possesses is to push someone down
emotionally, not to keep them there. But we do possess the power to pick
ourselves back up again. No one has the power to hold anyone down. No
matter whats said or done, its up to ourselves to get ourselves together and
move on.

2. Be who you are and say what you mean because those that matter dont mind,
and those that mind, dont matter. ~Dr. Seuss1.
I agree with this quote because if people are bothered by your individuality
then those aren't the people that should matter to you. Just because you feel a
certain way they do not have the right to shut you down. If you want to talk
about the way you feel about something, you shouldn't be afraid of being shut
out. It's better to surround yourself with people who still support you in
everything you do, not just the things they want you to be. You are your own
person, nobody else's'. There are people that support you and that you need to
be around so why bury yourself in negativity and risk losing who you really are.
Being yourself is the best thing to be, especially if there are people around you
that want the same thing for you too.

3. People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is
out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is
a light from within. ~Elizabeth Kubler Ross1.
Yes, this is very true. There are always two sides to a person. Good, and bad.
No one is perfect, but what makes a person is the amount of darkness in them.
No one ever shows their true nature. They want to seem perfect and pure in
hopes of not being rejected, but to be glorified. Like stained glass people show
their colors and traits as beauty and grace, but by only letting people see their
goodness and that is how they want to be known, and thats what theyre
recognized for. We can only show how good we are but only when the lights
are on and everyone is watching, its like putting on a show. But when no ones
looking thats when a person true character is reviled by integrity, which is a
persons character when no one is around. That is a persons value and beauty,
and that is determined by a persons level of integrity.

Part III
Dear CJ,
You are the person that I could never say thank you enough to, and the
person I could never spend enough time with. To start of you are the
person that got me to go to youth group. I was terrified of going to
youth group. Everyone was so much bigger than me and everyone
made fun of the middle schoolers. I never thoughted compare to my
brothers so I stay at the kid's church months after the rest of my class.
In the kid's church upstairs I was the top dog. I knew everything. I
could recite a bible verse faster than anyone could run. I was awarded
the MVP of the kid's church too. I never wanted to leave, and I never
thought would, and I never wanted to. Who would ever switch out
being looked up to by so many people to being stumbled upon my
upperclassmen? The first time we met you were wearing a pool noodle
and talked about all of the fun it was at the youth group. You talked
about how the youth group was gong to throw a welcome party for us
that sounded crazy fun. After that I wasn't afraid of the youth group, I
was just afraid of leaving everyone behind. The next Sunday when I
walk up stairs to kids church I didnt go into the room I just kept
walking straight. I looked back and stopped but I knew that I should
give it a try. I swung down the back stairwell and walked into the youth
room and everything was diferent. There weren't any bright colors or
anything just walls with palm trees. I walked in and you just started
opening up the sermon by a game of would you rather. I sat next to my
friend, Tamia and didn't participate because I really didn't want to
disrupt anything because I was so new to everything. After that you
gave a sermon about choosing the right friends, I felt convicted and I
knew I needed help. After the lesson was over I approached you and
we talked a lot and you encouraged me to find new and more positive
people in my life. I began first looking for people that I thought would
be great friends and when I was able to at more like myself all of the
dead weight of my older friends shed of and I was so much happier.
Just helping me with that made me feel like I could tell you about
anything and you'd help me. That why I kept going youth group. Every
Wednesday and Sunday. After every sermon, I remember always
walking up to you and eventually you suggested that I start reading my
Bible. But I didn't have one. Then we went into your office and you

ordered me one. I still use it today. Boy, you should see how marked up
it is. You taught me how to extract Gods truth from the Bible and apply
it to my life. Four years later and I'm still using it. Is falling apart, and
the only way to keep it from ripping in half to either get another one or
open it less. But thatll never happen. I'm going to get the most out of
it and I won't stop until I happens. It does suck that you moved away to
Washing ton but I'm so glad you get to be a full-time youth pastor now.
That's freaking amazing! You used to always tell me how proud of me
you were but Now, I proud of you.
3. You and your best friend have just walked out of the movie theater and are standing
on the sidewalk. Suddenly your best friend's older brother swerves to the curb and
offers to take both of you home. Beer cans litter the back seat of his car, and it is
obvious he has been drinking. Your friend hops into the car without a second thought.
You decide against going with them. Your friend is upset and demands to know why.
You tell your friend that you have made your decision and that you will explain later.
Write a letter to your friend to make peace with him/her to explain your reasons for
your decision. Use proper letter format, and make sure your reasons are sound (do
not use the reason just because)

Dear Elizabeth,
Im so sorry that us hanging out had to end so poorly. It really was a
great night at the movies until everything went south. I never intended
for things to go so wrong. You know Id do the craziest things with you,
and that I trust you. But I am very opposed to the idea of drinking and
driving. I wouldve loved to review the movie out loud with you on the
way home. But I could clearly see that Stephan was drunk, and I wasnt
comfortable with that. We both know the best thing about or friendship
is that we make sue to keep each other comfortable and safe around
each other. But this time a drunk brother was added into the equation
and I wasnt comfortable. I know how your brother likes to speed and
almost gets into trouble even when hes sober, and we laugh it of. But
I couldnt just laugh it of and get into his truck like that. I understand
that it's his job to keep you safe and it's the requirement as a brother
to keep you safe. But last night he wasn't your brother and nothing was
safe about it. I should've told you how I felt on the spot but I didn't
want to anger your brother or you because it was a sensitive time for
the both of you and anything I would've said could've been taken as
harsh. But also, I never want to be around that type of pressure and
negativity again. That wasn't cool Liz. I hope we can move past this
together, and not act like nothing happened. Because something did
happen. I hope this brings us together rather than pull us apart. But we

also need to learn a lot from this. What if your brother got into an
accident and you both died? Even worse what if I was in the car too,
and I died too? He was drunk and unsafe and there was no way I would
ever get into a car with him. Were young and we have to think about
the future ahead of us. You shouldnt be mad at me but I am sorry. I
didnt risk losing me loosing my life, you wouldn't stay with me and
that was your choice. Next time we need to listen to each other and
speak with reasoning.
