ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

A successful event can never be prepared by the single


effort but it also demand the help and guardianship of some
conversant person who helps in the undersigned in the
completion of successful event.
With great pleasure I express my gratitude to our advisor
Dr. Loga and the Hindu Society President, Kalaikumar Raman

INTRODUCTION TAMIL THAIVAZHTU

Neeraarum Kadaludutha Nilamanthai Kezhilozhugum,


Ponggal is a Thanksgiving Festival to Mother Nature especially to
the Sun God and Rain God for agricultural abundance. Thai Seeraarum Vadhanamena Thigazhbaratha Kandamithil,
Ponggal is a four-day festival which according to the Gregorian Thekkanamum Adhirpirandha Draavidanal Thirunaadum,
calendar is normally celebrated from January 14 to January 17.
This corresponds to the last day of the Tamil month Maargazhi Thakkasiru Pirainudhalum Tharitthanarum Thilakamume,
to the third day of the Tamil month Thai. Thai Pongal is one of
the most important festivals celebrated by the Tamilian. The day Atthilaka Vaasanaipol Anaithulagum Inbamura,
marks the start of the suns six-month-long journey northwards, Etthisayum Pugazh Manakka Irundha Perum
the Uttarayanam. This also corresponds to the Indic solstice when
the Sun purportedly enters the 10th house of the Indian zodiac Thamizhanange, Thamizhanange,
Makara or Capricorn. Therefore, this festival is also known as
Makara Sankranthi in other parts of India.

To enable students to have the opportunity to learn about"
Ponggal celebration.
To foster unity among the Hindu students and staffs in UTAR.
To pay respects to "Suryabhagavan the Sun God and receive
the blessings of Him.
To increase awareness on the meaning and significance of
celebrating
Ponggal.
To inculcate the culture of wearing a traditional attire during a
festival.
To expose participants with some traditional games.
