Text 1

The term of Tsunami comes from the Japanese which means harbour (tsu) and wave
(nami) . A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or a sea is rapidly displaced
on massive scale.

A tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the
overlying water. Such large vertical movements of the earths crust can occur at plate boundaries.
Seduction of earthquakes is particularly effective in generating tsunami, and occurs where denser
oceanic plates slip under continental plates. As the displaced water mess moves under the influence of
gravity to regain its equilibrium, it radiates across the ocean like ripples on a pond.

Tsunami always brings great damage. Most of damage is caused by the huge mass of water
behind the initial wave front, as the height of the sea keeps rising fast and floods powerfully into the
coastal area.

Earthquakes are one of the most deadly natural. What causes them? Geologists explain them in terms
of a theory known as plate tectonics. Continents are floating apart from each other; this is referred to
as the continental drift. About sixty miles below the surface of the sea, there is a emimolten bed of the
rock over which plates, or slabs, carry continents and sea floors at a rate of several inches a year. As
the plates separate from each other, a new sea floor is formed by the molten matter that was formerly
beneath. Volcanic islands and large mountain ranges are created by this type of movement.

NARRATIVE TEXT

Text 1

Once, there was a young man named Manik Angkeran who loved gambling. After all of his
wealth lost, he went to Naga Besukih the sacred dragon to ask for wealth. Having arrived in a cave
where Naga Besukih lived in, Manik Angkeran rang the bell to call Naga Besukih. Naga Besukih had
already known what Manik Angkeran wanted to. The sacred dragon agreed to give him wealth with
one condition that he should stop gambling. Hearing that, Marik Angkeran was angry and directly cut
the dragons tail off. It made naga Besukih angry and burnt Manik Angkeran till his death.

Luckily, maniks father was the dragons best friend so the dragon agreed to bring him life again.
In this second chance, Manik realized his fault and he said sorry to his father. He promised not to
gambling again, but Maniks father refused to live with him in one island and he made arbiter straits
which is known as Bali starits.

The Hermit and Everlasting Harvest

Many years ago, there lived a hermit in a forest in Sumatera. He did not grow foods but depended on the jungle
to survive. Soon, there was a drought, all the plants and fruit trees in the jungle died

The old man had nothing to eat now, so he turned to begging. He went to nearby village trying to get some food.
At first, the villagers were very happy to help him. However, when he came continually, they refused to give him
any more food. They told him to grow his own food.

One day, while the hermit was sitting in his hut, sad and hungry, he began to think about growing his own food.
Just then a boatman stopped by and talking on the hermit, gave him some rice seeds. Before the boatman went
away, he said, These seeds will grow and give you everlasting harvest if you work very hard. If you are tired of
the work, the rice plants will turn into weeds.

The old hermit worked hard to clear the land and sowed the seeds before the rains came. Strangely, after a short
period of time, the rice was ready for harvesting. The old man got a lot of rice from the harvest. After each
harvest, the plants grew back again right away. When the villagers heard about the hermit and his wonderful rice,
they flocked to his rice-field and took home as much rice as they could.

One day, the hermit became so tired of harvesting the rice that she shouted. Oh, stop growing, you wretched
thing! As soon as he had said this, the rice plants turned into weeds.
