1. PURPOSE
2. SCOPE OF WORK
This method statement describes the work execution plan for the installation of
Metallic raceways and their accessories in conjunction with the Electrical Boxes
installation at JIGCC Package 06 and to ensure that all works / activities are in full
compliance with Project Specifications, Aramco standards and Approved
Drawings. Types of raceway are as follow:
1. Rigid Steel Conduit (RSC)
2. Intermediate Metallic Conduit (IMC)
4. Flexible Metallic conduit (FMC)
3. REFERENCE
The Metallic Raceways and boxes installation is directly under the supervision of
the site electrical engineer who reports directly to the construction manager.
QA/QC Inspector:
QA/QC Inspector will report to the QA/QC Manager and he is responsible for the
implementation of project quality plan and insuring to maintain and effectiveness of
the project quality systems.
Surveyor:
Surveyor will report to the CM and Site Engineers, also responsible in determining
the precise location, distances, directions and elevation of points, lines and contours
of important features in the survey area. Records the results of surveys and verify
the accuracy of data, prepares plots for documentation.
Safety Supervisor/Officers:
Shall coordinate to the CM and provides safety guidance and advice from
commencement of activities until completion. He will also raise all safety related
issues observed at the work site to CM for compliance.
Foreman:
(1) The foreman will carry out his duties by maintaining continuous coordination with
the site engineer on daily basis, and ensure proper distribution of the workforce in
the required and planned locations.
(2) To ensure that his assistant foreman/ charge hand are aware of the job
requirements and they have enough information to carry out their duties properly.
(3) To ensure in consultation with the site engineer that the manpower involved in the
works are moving as agreed and planned for the work.
(4) To ensure that the daily work is progressing as planned and advice the site
engineer of any requirement for additional resources.
(5) To control disposal of waste materials according to the instructions received from
the site engineer.
(6) To ensure full coordination with the safety officer to maintain safe working and
proper housekeeping of the site, following the approved safety measures and further
ensure that all his working team are aware of the same to prevent accident and
losses.
(7) To inform the site engineer and of the areas ready for inspection.
(8) Distribution and the control of material shall be monitored by foreman and store
keeper.
Store Keeper
Storekeeper shall inspect materials delivered for any damage and/ or discrepancy
before advising QA/ QC for inspection. He shall be responsible for proper storage of
the materials received on site.
5.1.3: Rigid steel conduit can be stored outside, but should be loosely stacked,
elevated off the ground, and ventilated to prevent storage stain.
5.1.8: PVC coated conduit must be protected from scratching during storage and
shifting.
5.2.2:Check the site access to the work area for installation is available, that the
works area is clean, safe and that the temporary services provisions are available.
5.2.3: Confirm that all Materials and accessories have been delivered and
inspected as per ITP before starting the work.
5.2.4: Provide labor, materials, equipment & services, and perform operations
required for complete installation and related work as indicated on the approved
drawing.
5.2.5: The skilled and labourer doing the installation work shall have undergone
safety orientation and shall have been familiarized with the procedures related to
their works.
5.2.6: Keep all the tools, material and safety equipment(s) ready.
5.3:Installation of Rigid Steel and PVC Coated Galvanized Rigid Steel Conduit
& Box Installation .
Channel erector system components (Unistrut or similar) will be used to support the
Conduit and boxes.
No conduit smaller than 20mm in diameter or larger than 32mm diameter
shall be used.
5.3.1:RSC conduits & metallic boxes shall be used for exposed installation inside
Building for lighting, power, low current systems including fire alarm systems.
*All raceways shall be properly cut square and reamed smooth at the ends and all joint
made tight. Cut ends of conduit with hand or power saw.
*Make bends and offset will be skillfully done so that the inside diameter will not be
reduced.
*For overhead installations beyond the comfortable and safe reach of workers, provide
approved ladders or erect sufficient and safe scaffolds
*Surface of the raceways shall be checked for any dents prior to installation.
* 8.14 Apply coat of protective paint to conduits where protective coating is damaged. Do
not paint conduit threads.
5.3.2:All underground, outside, in concrete and risers from underground runs will be
rigid steel PVC coated conduit will be install or what so ever shown on site
approved drawings.
5.3.3: Use only manufactures recommended methods and tools for installation of
PVC coated conduits. Any PVC coating showing scratches and/or indentations due
to improper installation will be replaced.
5.3.4: Check the drawings for approved type and size of conduit to be installed.
5.3.6: Check on approved drawings for the route axis of the raceway.
5.3.7: Mark on the working surface by using chalk line the route of the raceways.
5.3.8: Determine the location of the junction boxes and pull boxes as shown on the
approve drawings.
* 6.13 Conductors shall not be spliced in pull boxes except when approved in
writing by the Engineer or where shown in drawings using approved splicing
methods.
* 6.15 Box covers shall be in place and completely secured to the box
5.3.9: Drill in the slab or the walls for the marked fixation holes for the Channel
supports by using the proper size of drill bit.
5.3.11: Insert the Proper size of screw in Push in anchor to fix the channel on
surface of roof or wall as shown on approved drawing.
5.3.14: Connect the conduit together by screwing threaded coupling onto the
threaded end of the conduit and tighten with proper tools.
5.3.15: Rigid Steel conduits are the hardest raceways to bend by hand because they have
a much thicker and harder wall. and rigid or IMC can be bent by hand using a hickey
bender (or segment bender) .Large sizes of raceways can be bent with hydraulic benders.
5.3.16: Use set threaded connector to connect the conduit to the side wall of the
junction box or pull box. Verify that conduit bushing are installed in the boxes and
seated properly. Conduit enters a box, fitting, or other enclosure, a bushing shall be
provided to protect the wire from abrasion unless the design of the box, fitting, or
enclosure is such as to afford equivalent protection.
5.3.17:If there is needed more then one Box use the box spacer .
5.3.18:Fix the Box on Wall with PVC Push in anchoer and tight with the proper size
& type of screw .
5.319:Conduit entry to Panle , Junction Box etc will be fix with lock nut and union as
in below figure .
5.3.20: Conduits shall be installed in parallel to each other and with uniform spacing
throughout the installations.
5.3.21: Keep Conduit away from water supply pipes, steam pipes.
5.3.22:Where conduits are left "open ended" prior to wiring caps or plugs to prevent
the ingress of building materials shall protect them.
5.3.23: Use the approved flexible connectors to connect the conduits at building
expansion joints.
5.3.24:Bends in conduit shall be made so that the conduit will not be damaged and
the internal diameter of the conduit will not be effectively reduced.
5.3.25: All the racewyas , their fittings and boxes will be grounded according to site
standard and approved drawings.
5.4.1: LFMC shall be used at the final connection to items subject to movement or
vibration, such as mentioned on approved drawings and project specifications.
5.4.2: Terminate and seal liquid tight flexible metal conduit to box or enclosure or
Electrical Drive Connection Box. Connectors can be used with tapered thread
female entry or unthreaded knockout using the provided sealing washer and
locknut.
5.4.3: All materials which are going to be installed for this type of system should be
approved for this purpose.
5.4.4: A roller cutter is recommended to cut the watertight conduits, since this will
the cut square.
6. RESOURCES
The equipment shown as above table is excessive with the consideration of some
sudden situations. So the equipment arrangement may be adjusted as per the site
condition after the initial sections installation.
