SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ALAPPUZHA DISTRICT

Introduction
A a s life is or ally divided into five main stages namely infancy,
childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. In each of these stages an individual
has to find himself in different situation and face different problems.
Unfortunately old age has now become prevalent social problem in our
society. In modern society were money is the scale of everything old age people
measured as an economic liability and social load. Among the Indian states, Kerala has
the largest production of elderly population and the growth rate aged is increasing
higher and higher. Therefore, one of the many challenges facing Kerala is its growing
much faster than the overall. The older and existence of younger one is cyclic biological
process. Old age people need care, love and healthy emotions.

Methodology
Methodology is the systematic, theoretical analysis of the methods applied
to a field of study. It comprises the theoretical analysis of the body of methods and
principle associated with branch of knowledge. Methodology is the systematic study
of methods that are, can be or have been applied in a discipline.
Both primary and secondary data are collected for the study. Direct personal
interview method used for the collection of primary data. Secondary data are
collected from the internet, articles, magazines and newspapers etc.

Results
The majority of the respondents of our study are under the age of 60 70.
67% of the respondents are belongs to the Christian community, most of the
respondents of our study are married. If we analyze the people in gender wise,
females are more than men. The old aged people affected by various socio-economic
problems. Economic background of the old aged people is very poor. The government
authorities does not provide much support to the old age homes.
Discussion
Ageing is a natural process. The ageing of a population is an obvious
consequence of the process of demographic transition. The study is an attempt to
examine the socio-economic issues of old age home with special reflection to
Alappuzha district. The study reveals that such people was brought up to the old age
home because of their socio-economic problem. For this I collected information from
3 old age ho es a ely; St. Josephs Poor ho e, Pu apara, Kripa Trust, Thalavadi,
Sneha Bhavan, Edathua. The information collected 30 older persons from the above
old age home.

Conclusion
An old age home or a retirement home is a multi residence housing facilities
intend for senior citizens. The number of old age homes have been increased largely
during the last few years. Today the old aged people for many issues, the changing
social structure, respondence of individualistic and materialistic values and negative
values of the younger generation towards the elderly will contribute a great in the
emergence old age as a social problem that is, they suffer from orientation due to
changes in value system, the generation gap, the divergence in culture. We must
consider older people as an asset of our culture and civilization.
