FLUSHING
1. SCOPE: -
Requirement of water flushing operation in connection with Hydro testing.

2. SPECIFICATION: -

MEDIUM:

Stainless Steel: Dematerialized water with chloride content up to 50

ppm maximum.

Carbon Steel : potable water

Where necessary, temporary piping and blinds shall be installed
under the following consideration.
1. The Temporary line shall be large enough to supply sufficient
flushing water, and the bottom levels of the pipe shall match.
2. Where possible, a valve for blocking or throttling of the flushing
water shall be installed in the temporary line.
3. Temporary blinds used during flushing / blowing out must be
properly marked so as to minimize the possibility of their being
over looked. They shall be numbered with tag plate or by painting
on them and marked up on P & I diagram.
After completion of flushing, Temporary blinds shall be removed with
confirmation from Albayroni, and where necessary, new gaskets shall be
used.
Adequate size drains are provided as appropriate.
Pipe supports and anchors shall be provided ensure water flushing is
safe. In certain cases temporary supports of piping will be required.
Spring hangers and supports shall be restrained before flushing and
testing and they are to be rest after flushing.
Equipment excluded from the flushing should be isolated with blinds at
the inlet and outlet flanges. Pump and compressor nozzles must be
adequately covered to ensure that water and / or debris cannot enter.

3. PROCEDURE:-
The draining out of water used for hydrostatic test can be the first
flushing of pipe works, but additional flushing will be made, where
require.
For line size 8 and smaller. Utility water or firewater hose shall be
connected to the line to be flushed.

FLUSHING
For line size 10 and larger, In order to get water flow speed for flushing
out the debris, air hose shall be connected in addition to water hose. At
first, line shall be depressurized after Hydro test and while still full of
water then flushed out by air. A continuous supply of air and water shall
be put into line until the outlet water is clean. Air shall be supplied by
temporary compressor or plant air.
Line, 24 inches and larger, may be cleaned by air blowing or hand
cleaning instead of water flushing where thorough cleaning is assured
subject to Albayroni approval.

4. DRYING:-
After completion of cleaning, pipes and equipments shall be thoroughly
drained. Dry air blown and ends shall be sealed to prevent from the
ingress of atmospheric moisture.

5. SAFETY: -
Water will be drained thoroughly from lines and equipment after
water flushing is completed. The vents must be opened during the
draining period.
When lines are flushed in place, the protection must be providing to
other equipment from water flushing (i.e., cold insulation, electrical
etc.)
Barricading & Warning signs must be hung in the area to indicate
that water flushing is in progress.
Any line requiring personnel to enter into pipes for cleaning purpose must be
adequately ventilated and checked by safety personnel. A vessel entry safety
permit will be required before entry into pipe. (Confined space permit to work).
