John Charles Edmund Carson Meade, 6th Earl of Clanwilliam was born on 6 June 1914.1 He was the son of Arthur
Vesey Meade, 5th Earl of Clanwilliam and Muriel Stephenson.1 He married Catherine Loyd, daughter of Arthur
Thomas Loyd, on 1 December 1948.1 He died on 30 March 1989 at age 74.1
John Charles Edmund Carson Meade, 6th Earl of Clanwilliam was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire,
England.1 He fought in the Second World War, in the Middle East and France, and was mentioned in despatches.2 He
retired from the military in 1948, with the rank of Major, late of the Coldstream Guards.3 He succeeded to the title of
6th Viscount Clanwilliam, of co. Tipperary [I., 1766] on 23 January 1953.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl
Clanwilliam [I., 1776] on 23 January 1953.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Gillford, of the Manor of Gillford, co.
Down [I., 1766] on 23 January 1953.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Clanwilliam, of co. Tipperary [U.K., 1828]
on 23 January 1953.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Baronet Meade, of Ballintubber, co. Cork [I., 1703] on 23
January 1953.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Down between 1957 and 1962.2 He held the
office of Lieutenant of County Down between 1962 and 1975.2 He was invested as a Companion, Most Venerable Order
of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (C.St.J.) in 1975.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Down
between 1975 and 1979.3

Catherine Loyd is the daughter of Arthur Thomas Loyd.1 She married John Charles Edmund Carson Meade, 6th
Earl of Clanwilliam, son of Arthur Vesey Meade, 5th Earl of Clanwilliam and Muriel Stephenson, on 1 December
1948.1
Her married name became Meade. As a result of her marriage, Catherine Loyd was styled as Countess of
Clanwilliam on 23 January 1953. She lived in 2003 at Maizley Cottage, Oare, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.2

John Alastair Livingston Timpson and Elizabeth Phoebe Houstoun-Boswall, on 28 October 1972.3
