These students are targeted for intervention due to their reading milestones test scores, being below ‘average. Students will be accountable for reading and writing bcok reports for atleast three books per month ftom a selection of Georgia Peach Award booss. The EOCT reading scores forall 9th and 10th graders at Jefferson High School will be reviewed as well. Any student who is "on the bubble" of failing or between levels willbe referred to the Summer Reading Pals program. The program will be designed in accordance with universal design of leaning principles to allow for differentiation to strugaling learners. Differentiation will occur where students have significant cognitive issues relating to ‘understanding. The program will be assessed through reading each book report closely. Further, the JHS Media Specialist will conduct research in order to determine the effectiveness ofthe program, Students will also complete quizzes ereated foreach book by the JHS Media Specialist ‘There are plenty of ways in which student achievement will be assessed. ine Briefly tate the timeline for accomplishing stated outcomes. The timeline should include project duration and number of weekly instructional hours to be provided per student. ‘The Summer Book Pals program will be up and running during the months of June and July with the last meeting occurring prior to the start ofthe 2018 school year. During the months of March and April 2017, the JHS Media Specialist will purchase multiple copies ofthe Georgia Peach ‘Award books and the chromebooks. The JHS Media Specialist will prepare discussions for each book no later than May 2017. The preparation eycle will include quiz creation, creation of discussion questions, and book reports for each book. The Media Specialist will meet with the local Public Youth librarian no later than April 2017 to pan for the program. This planning will involve scheduling dates and times for book club meetings, planning snacks/meals foreach ‘meeting, planning which books should be talked about by each Media Specialist, and so on. Measurable Results Describe the specific, measurable results that indicate stufent improvement you expect to have achieved that the end of funding period. Avoid using ambiguous phrases to define success. Use quantitative not qualitative data to report results. ‘We anticipate that atleast 50 students will increase their eading comprehension seore by at least cone grade level, Further, we anticipate that students will score at least 25 points higher on the English EOCT administered in April 2018. Given thatthe English EOCT scores will increase, wwe are hopeful that EOCT scores will increase significanily in other areas such as Social Studies, Math, ete ‘Assessment Methods Deseribe the methods that will be used to assess the effectiveness of your program throughout its progression. Education gains will be tracked on a monthly basis through collaboration with the individual student's English teachers. These teachers will share progress report grades. These chromebooks willbe used in coordination with Jefferson High Schools current inventory of chromebooks. Students who do ‘not have access to technology in ther home will have the opportunity to take a chromebook home to complete their assigned book repors. Students will be instructed on how to complete their assignments, Instructors will provide hands on instruction to facilitate completion of book reports in person and via distance instruction.
