INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES WHO

APPLIED FOR MBA/MCA COUNSELLING


This counselling is intended for seeking admission to MBA/MCA Degree
Programme to Engineering Colleges under the Purview of the Directorate of
Technical Education, Chennai- 600 025 and Arts and Science Colleges under the
purview of the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai – 600 006.

1. Allocation of Seats in Engineering / Arts & Science Colleges


1.1 Seats in the Engineering Colleges and Stand alone Institutions under the purview
of the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai 600 025 are grouped into the
following categories:
i) Seats in Government Engineering Colleges.

ii) Seats in Government Aided Engineering Colleges.

iii) Seats surrendered by Self – Financing Engineering Colleges and


stone alone Institutions.

1.2 Seats in the Arts and Science Colleges and Stand alone Institutions under the
purview of the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai 600 006 are grouped
into the following categories:

i) Seats in Government Arts & Science Colleges.

ii) Seats in Government Aided Arts & Science Colleges.

iii) Seats surrendered by Self – Financing Arts & Science Colleges and
stone alone Institutions.

2. Instruction regarding Nativity


Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu only will be considered for counselling,
However, the following categories of candidates are also eligible to apply as Tamil
Nadu candidates subject to following conditions:

1. Children of Central Government employees otherwise not domicile of Tamil


Nadu may also apply and complete under Open Competition for admission,
irrespective of their domicile provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents
are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past Five years
at the time of submission of application which should be supported by enclosing a
certificate from the employer of the Parent of Guardian, to that effect.

2. Children of persons (not domicile of Tamil Nadu) employed in Public


Sector or Government Recognized Institutions who at the time of submission of
application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past Five
Years may also apply and complete for admission under Open Competition
irrespective of their domicile, provided a certificate from the employer is enclosed
along with the application that the person is a Permanent employee of the firm or
institution concerned with evidence like Income Tax return, PPF etc., and is working
in Tamil Nadu continuously for the Five years.

3. Tamil Nadu candidates who have studied from XI Std. / Three year Diploma
onwards in Tamil Nadu need not enclose the nativity certificate. In case they have
passed any of the XI Std., XII Std. and Diploma / Degree examinations from the
institutions situated outside Tamil Nadu, copy of Nativity Certificate” should be
enclosed with the applications for considering them as candidates belonging to Tamil
Nadu.

4. Foreign Nationals including Sri Lankan Nationals are not eligible.

5. Applications without Employment Certificate or with Defective Employed


Certificate / Nativity Certificate of the categories mentioned above will be considered
as “Other State Candidates” and they are NOT ELIGIBLE for admission.

2.1 Entrance Examination


Candidates should have appeared for the TANCET – 2010 Examination
conducted by Anna University Chennai, Chennai- 600 025 and should produce
TANCET 2010 Mark Sheet issued by Anna University Chennai, Chennai- 600 025.

3. Rank List
1. The Rank list is prepared on the basis of the marks secured in the TANCET
2010 Entrance Examination.

If there is tie (Same marks obtained by more than one candidate ) while
preparing the rank list, the candidate having higher average percentage of marks
(upto Pre- Final Semester Year) in the qualifying degree examination will be ranked
above.

2. As per the rank list, candidates will be provisionally selected for admission
following the communal reservation. There will be counselling on the basis of the
rank list and the candidates have the choice of selecting any college as per
availability at the time of counselling. The date, time and venue for counselling will
be intimated to the candidates. No change of date/ time of counselling is permissible.
Candidates who do not attend the counselling on the specified date and time may
have to forgo the claim of admission.

3. Candidates should produce the proof of pass in the Degree Examination (


Degree Certificate / Provisional Certificate / Mark Sheets of all Semesters of Degree
Examinations) during the counselling. Candidates who do not produce the proof of
pass in Degree Examination will not be considered for allotment during counselling.

4. The candidates are informed that the allotment given in the counselling
are only provisional. In accordance with rules prescribed for admission, if they are
found ineligible on actual verification of original certificates by the Principal /
Directorate of Technical Education, they cannot claim any right for admission or
continuation of study at whatever stage of study they may be.

4. SPECIAL RESERVATION

3% of seats are reserved for Orthopedically Physical Handicapped / Hearing


Impaired / Visual Impairment candidates. Candidates seeking admission against this
reservation should produce the certificate from the Medical Board of the District
Concerned certifying the nature and extent of disability in percentage and with
regard to his / her suitability for admission to MCA Programme specifically
mentioned in the format appended to this application (Certificate No. I / II / III)
respectively.

Candidates seeking selection against the seats under the Special Reservation
Categories should also satisfy the eligibility rules mentioned in the prospectus and
selection of candidates to the above special categories will be in addition to their
selection under general category.

4.1 Eligible Criteria for various Disabilities (as per G.O. Ms.No.98
Higher Education (J2) Dept. dt.23.03.05)
a) Norms for Orthopedic Disability

Candidates with Permanent physical impairment of 40 % and above are


considered as disability. Hence candidates with orthopedic disability of the following
types are eligible for claiming MBA/MCA admission against Physically Handicapped
category.

i) Independent in ambulance with or without calipers but without walking aids.

ii) Good Standing Balance without calipers but without any support.

iii) Hand Function with normal limit without any aid.

iv) Good control over bladder & bowel.

v) Disease must be non progressive.

b) Norms for Hearing Disability


Candidates with hearing ability of 40db and above only in the better ear with
speech discrimination score of 50% and above are considered disabled and hence
eligible foe claiming MBA/MCA admission against Physically Handicapped category.

c) Norms for Vision Impairment

Candidates with low vision of 40% and above are considered as disabled, and
hence eligible foe claiming MBA/MCA admission against Physically Handicapped
category.

Low Vision: Persons with low vision means a person with impairment of
vision of less than 6/18 to 6/60 with best correction in the better eye or impairment of
field in any one of the following categories:

a) Reduction of fields less than 50 degrees.

b) Heminaopia with macular involvement.

c) Attitudinal effect involving lower fields.

5. Certificates to be produced at the time of counselling
The candidate is advised to be present in the venue one hour before the
Commencent of his/her counselling session. Allotment of the college will be made as
per rank, communal and other reservations and / or the availability of seats during
the time of counselling. The candidates called for counselling should bring all
Original Certificates as listed below:

If the candidate has deposited all the original certificates with the Institution
where he/she has already joined, a Certificate from the Head of Institution should be
brought to that effect. In such case only, true/ attested copies of certificates will be
accepted.
