8 COMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE
9 OF BUTUAN TO HIDILYN F. DIAZ FOR BRINGING HONOR TO
10 THE COUNTRY BY WINNING AS SILVER MEDALIST IN THE
11 WOMENS 53KG WEIGHTLIFTING EVENT IN THE 2016
12 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES HELD IN RIO DE JANEIRO,
13 BRAZIL, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

16 WHEREAS, on August 8, 2016, the entire Filipino Nation exclaimed in victory as Hidilyn F.
17Diaz, a 25-year old Filipina from Zamboanga City and Philippine Air Force Airwoman, successfully
18performed in the Womens 53kg Weightlifting Event and placed second, earning her a Silver Medal in the
192016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and ending the countrys two decades of medal
20drought in the quadrennial Summer Olympic Games;

22 WHEREAS, the silver standing of Ms. Diaz was a trailblazing triumph for sports in the country
23for being the very first Olympic medal for a female Filipino athlete, and the very first one in the sport of
24weightlifting;

26 WHEREAS, before her sweet road to Olympic triumph, Ms. Diaz was already representing the
27country and giving honor thereto in the same sport of weightlifting, such as both the 2008 and 2012
28Summer Olympics, the 2015 Asian Championships in September 2015 in Thailand in which she won
29Gold, the 2015 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in November 2015 in
30Houston, Texas, USA in which she ranked third, the 3 rd International Qatar Cup in December 2015 in
31Doha, Qatar in which she ranked first, and the 2016 Asian Championships in April 2016 in Tashkent,
32Uzbekistan in which she ranked third, among other remarkable victories;

34 WHEREAS, the unprecedented accomplishment of Ms. Diaz in the Rio Olympics was celebrated
35throughout the country, and prompted honorary citations all the way from the Philippine Senate and
36Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte, inspiring many young Filipino athletes to pursue their dreams of
37bagging their own Olympic victory, and sparking the hope of the country for more Filipino athletes
38becoming Olympic champions;

40 WHEREAS, for the honor that she gave the country and the inspiration that she lit in the hearts
41of the Filipino people, the Honorable Sangguniang Panlungsod of Butuan wishes to extend the happiness
42and the pride that the City Government and People of Butuan feel for Olympic Victress Hidilyn Diaz.

44 NOW THEREFORE, upon motion of Honorable Cromwell P. Nortega, duly seconded by
45Honorable Rema E. Burdeos, be it

47 RESOLVED, to express the congratulations and commendations of the City Government and
48People of Butuan to HIDILYN F. DIAZ for bringing honor to the Country by winning as Silver Medalist
49in the Womens 53kg Weightlifting Event in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro,
50Brazil.

52 RESOLVED FURTHER, to furnish copies of this Resolution the Office of the City Mayor and
53Ms. Hidilyn F. Diaz, c/o the Philippine Air Force, Villamor Airbase, Pasay City, Metro Manila, for
