The talks on Global Warming started years ago and remained as one of

the major environmental concerns of today. This phenomenon is becoming

more and more evident as years goes by. No one can really deny its
occurrence and its effect as it is being sensed by the whole world. After
reading the article, whether one believes that global warming is really
happening or not, this is undoubtedly a real issue for businesses. Extreme
and unpredictable weather conditions, floods, droughts, rapid snowmelt, and
rising sea levels are among the major challenges for business operations,
and have direct implications for commerce globally. In effect, uncertainty will
arise and business must be aggressive enough when it comes to their
strategies on how to deal w/ these uncertainties. Mass migration and security
threats that is eventually happening and can cause some amendments on
present laws, loss productivity due to extreme weather condition, the coping
cost that a business should adapt to prevent huge damages, rebuilding cost
after disaster and those additional cost incurred after w/c I called the band
aid solution costs. Global warming will also have a domino effect on
agricultural and production operations. For example, a reduction in the
supply of agricultural products and scarcity of water may lead to a reduced
food supply and threats to food security, a rapid global increase in
commodity prices, social and political unrest, inflation, and finally economic
slowdown. With such a scenario, business will not be as usual.Unfortunately,
companies in developing nations are particularly vulnerable to the global
warming.

Finally, it may be concluded that global warming has only negative effect to
businesses but lets not forget that it has also created positive (new)
business opportunities like renewable energy, "green" manufacturing,
energy-efficient and smart products and many others. Its not necessarily all
bad for business. People just need to innovate and adapt. Businesses that
refuse to change are the ones that will be marginalized.

We seem to forget that everything that is good for the environment is a job.
Solar panels dont put themselves up. Wind turbines dont manufacture
themselves. Houses dont retrofit themselves and put in their own new
boilers and furnaces and better-fitting windows and doors. Advanced biofuel
crops dont plant themselves. Community gardens dont tend themselves.
Farmers markets dont run themselves. Every single thing that is good for
the environment is actually a job, a contract, or an entrepreneurial
opportunity. (Van Jones, Rebuild the Dream, 2012)
