Past Perfect: The past perfect is used in English to express that an action occurred
before another action in the past. Both happened in the past but the order among
them is established by the use of the past simple and past perfect. The sentence in
past perfect happened first; the sentence in past simple happened next. For example:

The movie had finished when she arrived to the cinema (La pelcula haba
terminado cuando ella lleg al cine).

- First action: The -Second action: She

movie had finished. arrived to the cinema.
(Past perfect) (Past simple)

To create the affirmative form of present perfect we must use TO HAVE as

the auxiliary and the verbs must be in the past participle form (regular and
irregular verbs).
 - I had bought a new - You had cleaned the -They had made the
car (Yo haba comprado house (T habas shopping (Ellos haban
un nuevo auto). limpiado la casa). hecho la compra).

To create the interrogative form it is necessary to use the auxiliary at the beginning
of the sentence, followed by subject, the main verb in past participle form and the
complement (including the ? mark) like this:

Aux + Suj + Verb + Complement?

Had I bought a new car?

Meanwhile, in the negative form is constructed by placing NOT between the

auxiliary and the verb in past participle. For example:
 Sub+ Aux + Neg + Main verb + Complement

I had not bought a new dress.

You can use the contracted form by placing hadnt instead of had
not. Like this:

I hadnt bought a new dress
