EXECUTIVE SUMMERY

Adessemi is a Limited company by shares. It was found by American women her name
Monique Mandy. It was formed and registered in Tanzania in 1995 under PACRO
CERTIFICATE of INCOOPERATION. The firm was successfully running for about six years. Its
business was providing wireless telecommunication system in the remote areas of Tanzania.
Adessemi launched the world first fully integrated virtual phone system incorporation
voice mails, pagers, and hundreds of pay phone. Adessemi were providing these services to
individual, private, Government and non Government Organisation to the general public.
The business firm was situated in Dar Salaam, Tanzania.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of public wanting a full
telecommunication service, due to economical development taking place in the Dar Salaam
and the country at large. This increase has resulted in an increased demand for
telecommunication service to provide the services that are not going to threaten its
environment in any way by using wireless system .But wireless system is very expensive but
it is also reliable to use in third world developing country and it needs more money to
accomplish the work. Adessemi would have loved to offer a cheaper option to its customers
without damaging its environment. That force the CEO of Adessemi to start looking for more
money with checking who is leading the money, to Adessemi, its the money they need to
run its operation.

Adessemi has therefore identified a gap in providing telecommunication service with the
third world in its local town and the Country. Its mission is to be a Company that will
Provide the best telecommunication in Tanzania by using wireless to became an eco
friendly telecommunication Company.

To achieve this, Adeseni is therefore applying for financial assistance of 20million American
dollar in order for it to purchase a handset and wireless equipment, this equipment was
going to help Adessemi to achieve its goal to provide Eco friendly telecommunication that
will use modern wireless. Which, is more effective than traditional way of communicating,
easy to use and to cover up its gap in telecommunication the third world has being lucking

Adeseni developed an intricate distribution channel for its cards that was going on
smoothing within its organisation. It had also successfully launched its 400 wireless in
Tanzania this confirms the steady growth it was taking on the Tanzania Market.

Adeseni have had all the data needed to continue expanding its project and they were
hoping of penetrating other third world to launch its innovation, but it was going to cost
them a lot of money to do
The expertise which currently exists at Adeseni has no capability to handle the activities on a
high note. The project needs a highly experienced CEO to manage the growth of its project
looking at the amount of money that has being injected in the organisation from different
investor with its growing demand. The founder of the organisation was met to pave way to
the experience CEO and by making sure he/she understand the vision and culture of the
organisation. This was creating employment hence contributing to the Tanzanian
Government commitments on Job creation and teaching a skill to technical team, that are
employed by Adeseni.

Adeseni is a multicultural company it needs employees with high levels of qualification


especially it was in a starting process. The CEO Job is not looking at petty issues like sorting
out dispute. If Adeseni had employed qualified staff culture difference becomes amine one
and everyone will concentrate with the skill they are employed for.

Adeseni, was met to understand the terms and condition of doing business in a country that
they are investing in, if it is favourable for them to pour in their investment

I have being working in a hospitality industry for the past ten years. The nature of the
business is very sensitive when the whole world is hit by recession. Tourism is the last thing
our clients would spend money on. We do have a lot of expatriate within our organisation
that works with us.

Our expatriate that the company employee does not mean, you cannot find suitable
candidate to fill in the position in our country. We employee them because we know that
they understand our clients culture, we have a lot of differences in terms of culture.

I am not putting any racial remarks but, I would love to put my point across in a very clear
way that every one understands. I am a black Zambian Citizen with a lot of experience in
Hotel industry. The reason why we do have all those expatriate it is to building confidence
and assurances that whatever they will need it will be given to them any time. And we are
not just wasting their money for a not very good service. Our Personas will be more
comfortable and be assured to pass on the same instruction to a fellow American, British or
Indian in hospitality our clients are much more comfortable with their own than Indigenous.
Indigenous hospitality companies have failed to do well because of the reason that I have
just mention multicultural person fail to have comfort in there properties.

I would comfortably say multicultural that was at Adeseni, would have caused part of the
company not going forward. We have being told that Adeseni had 75 as total number of
employee in its organisation and out of that 25 are expatriate. We have being told that
some of the expatriate were spending a lot of time of vacation that would possible bring
gaps in management control procedure and policy implementation in company.
Why did Monique Mandy fail to launch a new innovation in Tanzania?

There are a number of reasons to why Mandy didnt succeed with her new innovation in
Tanzania. Mandy had a very good business plan that she wanted to implement but she
should have look at the country legislation for investors. Most of the African countries have
good policy with foreign investors that are made favourable to the investor wanting to
invest.

Country legislation is very important for an investor like Mandy to at look and understands
them before you start investing in a foreign. Mandy had already included in her forest
budgets the commission she was going to get from the Tanzania telecommunication
authority, having in mind about the problem she has being facing in getting the licence from
the Tanzania authority shows how tough and unappreciative the Tanzania government have
being to a invest who is looking at investing a lot of money. This is very common in some of
the African countries because our government interference in private company

Mandy was going to take her time also in find a business partner who is the citizen of the
country she is doing business in. Find a right partner is not very easy it takes people that
have the right attitude and you can share with them a vision I would happy say Mandy
didnt find the right partner in Tanzania that was going to help her in getting things
organised like the licence and make her understand Tanzania legislation before spending in
a lot of money. The biggest asset a new company will have is qualified and experienced
employees, Mandy need to employee basing of the qualification and experience a person
has not a one on one conversation. She should have employed the Human resource team
that was going to be responsible with the hiring of the right managers of a new team that
are going to make this team workable.

I have basically covered most of the reason why I think the innovation didnt take place as
Mandy dreamt about her new business but the most important of all these are being able to
manage growth in an entrepreneur. Managing growth in a new entrepreneur needs four
things that an organisation needs to put in place. An organisation need to be able to have a
vision and strategy, this will help an organisation to stay on truck has its experience its
growth and how it is going to combat its strategy to the competitors are already on the
market or coming behind them. This is not the only thing that should have being done
Mandy should have look at her organization, structure and the process it does business. This
involves how can the whole telecommunication operational done broken down in specific,
individual task and jobs with her team she has putting in place how they are going to be
coordinating the operation of the business.

There are more important issues Mandy should have consider if her business was to go on
successfully. She need people who will actually fill the roles and responsibility and have
proper trained skill. Mandy needed a team of people with a right skill to do her job and she
was met to fill them with her vision on how she intends to come out as a winner together
her team.

Mandy needed to know the specific knowledge, skill, experience, and the aptitudes required
for all the position she has available. She also needs to know how these people can be
evaluated and motivated to get superior performance. Apart from that Mandy was met to
know what attitude toward customers, supplier, and fellow employees must new
employees posses, and to they fit in with the culture effective contributors to strategic
success?

Mandy is a born entrepreneur, she needed to be aware of the elements to find in


entrepreneurship. She needs a clear mind that drives both dimension and is influenced by
them an entrepreneurs largely determine the firms strategy , the entrepreneur s values
drive the firm s culture the entrepreneurs management style creates the features of
organization and process. Mandy was suppose to perform her role as the CEO of the
company but she has not dont enough experience to play the role she was met to hire a
CEO and became her second in command this would have help her to still make her ship
float even in waves.

What effect did country and market conditions have on this?

There is more effect which the Tanzania had on Mandys business, I would say. The
government never wanted to promote investors in telecommunication for security reason
and they never had good policy that was attracting investor. The other effect I think was not
having a proper procedure of how do obtain an operating licence and who has authority to
sign it.

As far as I am concern the licence issuing authority was met to be able to tell its customers
who the commissioner is, so that the investors and general public knows where to get
advice.

I am failing to understand how the government department can have two standards in
terms of issuing the licence this shows that they didnt accept the company Mandy was
bring in to their economy

Corruption and bribing are always there in government department it is very easy to get
anything you want by bribing or corrupting , but you might not be able a get a receipt. If you
dont get receipt it difficult to claim it as an expense. Through this difficult way of getting
licence and government having double standard it proves to be difficult to continue doing
business in Tanzania. Even though the market conditions were not very favourable to new
entrepreneurs it needed investors that are patient in doing business transaction.
What is the importance of networks in entrepreneurship? Explain this using Monique

Network is very important in entrepreneurship it connects to the entire link you would like
to help from. If you have a difficult in sorting a problem in the new set up the network
comes in very hand. Mandy needed a good network to help her sort out two very important
issues one being as she need her connection to help her get a licence in Tanzania and the
other one she needed a good network to be able to borrowing money from good investors.
Mandys network if it was very she was going to be able to borrowing money from patient
investors that were going to be part of the success story in the third world. Being properly
connected to a good network helps an entrepreneur to succeed even in the difficult time.

Did Monique learn out of this failure? What would she do or avoid next time?

Mandy learnt a lot from her failure to succeed, Mandy is a very big entrepreneur who had a
lot of determination in wanting to achieve her dream. She brought a very good business
proposal to the third world country that is in need of the development. Mandy needed to
raise enough equity capital from a good fair investors not from the do-gooder investor and
she need to find a very good standing Tanzanian to become his partner in the business. Get
to connected through the Tanzanian partner and penetrate the market. Mandy need to
understand and sort out all the legislation

Mandy spent a lot of her time trying to settle dispute within the organisation instead of
creating managing new strategy in the organisation. Mandy hired her staff under intense
time and pressure with financial constraints

Mandy needed to sort all the culture habits and culture diversity problems within her
organization, and employee new specific knowledge, skill, experience and herself delegate
more responsibility these persons have to accept bigger roles.

What would she do or avoid next time?

Mandy need to avoid borrowing money from a non- do gooder investors and borrow from
investors that are patient and are willing to for filling her dream .She need to employee the
CEO of the company that herself will delegate more responsibility these persons have to
accept bigger roles.

She also needs to employee to individuals with specific knowledge, skills, and aptitude
required for the set position that have been identified.

The other point I feel needs to be observed in the country legislation where the visitor is
going to invest in if it does comply with what the investors are actually looking at. It is
always important to organize all the paper working involved before starting investing money
in a foreign country. It is always important to do adequate search with the right hired staff
before you starting any big capital expenditure business. I know it is very difficult for good
lending organisation to give
