Matrix

Kanook – Tlingit Nation

July 6th, 2010

Like a virus with no cure, the Internet has spread across our planet, and if you’re a person who
believes in interplanetary electromagnetic wave propagation, across the immediate Universe. The
explosion experienced here on Planet Earth is unprecedented when compared to any other
technology we have ever had. It has linked the corners of our civilization creating, like any other
technology some good along with the not-so-good. For instance, when thin strips of celluloid
began its existence and then grew into a massive industry giving us “Gone with the Wind”, it also
gave birth to “Linda Lovelace”, and you know how successful we were are at destroying the
moguls of Hollywood and their visions of our sexual revolution.
Twenty-years ago mainstream media was the last word in spreading the events happening in
our lives, whereas editors were committed to researching their reporters input, throwing out the
vague and printing what the advertising dollars suggested. Differences were only noted if two
organizations existed in close proximity of each other, whereas rules put forth by some
democratic nations forbid the owners of one media to own or operate another form of media
outlet.
Today in a vain attempt to clamp down on the Matrix, mainstream media is doing its level best
to either stay abreast of the Net by either printing large headlines decrying its deficiencies or
running their own “blogs” telling the reader that you cannot trust what you see or read on the Net
– despite this push from the demigods of the written and visual/audio word along with the
governments who tell you that the freedom of the Net is harmful to the masses – the Matrix
moves along at an astounding speed as more and more citizens of the world look to the Internet
for news, reported events and political opinion.
Today, for some reason, if you read an opinion you usually put it in one category or the other,
“information” or a “rant”…whereas “rant” is invariably linked to the “nasty” phrase
“conspiracy”, with maybe the word “nut” trailing. Regardless, albeit there are a number of
opinions drifting around and some do lick the edges of truth in their wordage, some of them are
actually factual and truthful, but those are usually “slammed” and “dunked” into the bowl of
conspiracy by the media, who when you look at their basis you will most likely find a close
relationship between the media and the subject or object the opinion refers to.
Here again, subjects that were considered off-limits to most of us even 5-years ago are now
becoming the subjects of blogs, headlines on Matrix news sites, or topics found in e-mails. Albeit
our technology has in a sense made “video” headlines doubtful, seeing the number of programs
floating around that can manipulate the digital information making the likes of Humphrey Bogart
dance in real-time and persons who we really suspect are long gone, “Osama bin Laden” for
example appear on your nightly news program talking in a clipped voice about the events of the
day – thereby giving one more reason for the Western societies to kill and wound more citizens of
a foreign land – some recognize the marketing behind such, while others run about loading their
shotguns and .357 magnums getting ready to fight off the Muslims of the world, hey it’s their
choice.
When the Islamic faith calls for the death of the Infidel, the West shutters and shakes and points
to the Christian faith as the end of it all, wave white flags with bright red crosses embedded in the
middle of the field – but the west has erased the memories of when the first English settlers set
foot on Native American land in Massachusetts Bay and did battle with the Pequot Indians who
did not want their kind wandering about – the settlers having their weapons of mass destruction
felt that killing and Indian or two was supremely approved by God, and took the land and lives
under his command noted in the Bible. Whereas the settlers would stand with one foot square on
the back of the indigenous land owner and recite from Psalms, “Ask of me, and I shall give thee,
the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the Earth for thy possession.”
When a group of settlers set fire to a “Pequot Village” and massacred men, women and the
children, the Puritan Theologian ‘Cotton Mather” wrote in his notes for the day, “It was supposed
that no less than 600 Pequot Souls were brought down to ‘Hell’ that day.”
“Never-you-mind”, we scream at each other – what the Matrix is beginning to teach us is that
“no-one is perfect”, albeit some believe they are and they rant and rave about others
imperfections – the Net now is showing us we all have them.
Beyond all this one thing is for certain, just as the wheel changed the world, so is the Matrix –
the world will never be the same – now whether or not it will improve our relationship with each
other, or bring about the largest conflict we’ve ever experienced – is beyond anyone’s opinion.
I leave you with this – read over twice anything that slips onto your screen – discard what YOU
believe is suspect – and above all “learn”, if the Matrix is anything at all, it is a modern tool that
gives you an insight on how your fellow man is thinking. Doesn’t make it wrong, after-all it is
their opinion and vision – it is up to you to have your own vision!
