Note: There are total 3 questions printed on one side of this sheet. Start answering each question from a
new page with all parts in a sequence. Clarity of presentation will carry its own marks.

1. The cost matrix for assigning 5 workers to 5-different tasks is given as:
Worker\Task A B C D E
W1 5 3 4 2 6
W2 4 5 6 7 9
W3 7 8 9 8 5
W4 3 5 8 4 10
W5 8 6 5 7 4
(a) Find out the optimal assignment and its cost.
(b) If worker W1 is not allowed to get task D, then find out the optimal assignment and its cost? [10 M]

2. A LPP is given as follows:

Minimize: Z = 3x1+x2+x3
Subject to: x1-2x2+x3 11
4x1+x2+2x3 3
2x1 x3 = 1
x1, x2, x3 0
(a) Using x4, x5, x6, x7 as the slack, surplus and artificial variables respectively, write the standard form
of the problem.
(b) Find its initial basic feasible solution using Two-Phase Simplex method.
(c) Find the optimal solution. [5+15+10 = 30 M]

3. A company has three plants at locations A, B and C, which supplies to warehouses located at X, Y and
Z. Monthly plant capacities are 800, 500 and 700 units, respectively. Monthly warehouse requirements
are 600, 900 and 1000 units, respectively. Unit transportation costs (in Rs.) from a plant to a warehouse
are given as:
Plant\Warehouse X Y Z
A 5 8 6
B 6 7 3
C 9 4 5
Warehouse X cannot afford to have any unfulfilled demand. At warehouse Y, there is a penalty cost of
Rs. 20 per unit of unfulfilled demand. At warehouse Z, there is a penalty cost of Rs. 10 per unit of
unfulfilled demand, but it cannot afford to have more than 300 units of unfulfilled demand at any cost.
(a) Formulate an appropriate transportation model.
(b) Find its initial basic feasible solution using Least Cost method.
(c) Find the optimal allocation and its transportation cost. [5+5+10 = 20 M]
