EASTER SUNDAY
From The Pastor
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to pre-
sent your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is
your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1
All who cleanse themselves of the things I have mentioned will
become special utensils, dedicated and useful to the owner of the house,
ready for every good work. II Timothy 2:21

These verses give me the sense that we are called to do Gods work with
both passion and competence. I want to give you a thought from my friend
Jim Gentil, also known as Mr. Positive.

THE SIX MUSTS OF SUCCESS!

1. You must have a specific goal.
2. You must have a specific time to achieve your goal.
PASTORS CORNER 3. You must write it down.
4. You must develop a plan to achieve your goal.
5. You must decide what kind of price youre willing to pay.
6. You must think about reaching your goal everyday.
If you could live your life over, what would you do differently and why?
Whatever you come up with, write that down! That becomes your goal!
What does success look like for you? What does it mean for your faith?

Peace,

From The Associate Pastor

I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each
other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.
CEB John 13:34-35

In January one of our focuses in worship has been on Discipleship. We heard Instructions on How to be a
Disciple. One of the Christian marks of a true Disciple is Love, loving one another and others as Jesus has
loved us. As we begin the journey of training our souls, taking up the discipline of learning to love as Jesus
has loved us would be a great place to start.
To love as Jesus has loved sounds easy, but knowing the history of the disciples and our own lives, we real-
ize that this love is tough. Its a love that calls for us to give ourselves away to meet the needs of others. Its
an unconditional love; it doesnt guarantee we will receive that same love in return. We are called not to live
our lives just for self, but for the benefit of others. As we prepare for the Lenten Season, let us rethink what is
involved in this call to love.
This love that Jesus calls us to practice and share with one another and others, will sustain us in the challeng-
ing days ahead. And this love of one another and others will be the distinctive way the church will be recog-
nized in the world.

Grace,

KATHY BRANTONNew Financial Secretary
Kathy Branton joins our staff, after a brief retirement from St. Lukes UMC in
Houston. She and her husband Tom had been splitting their time between Houston and
Lake Nacogdoches for five years before Tom joined Angelina College in January 2016
gratefully making Nacogdoches their permanent home. Originally from North Syracuse,
NY, Kathy has been a Texas resident for over 30 years. Her daughter, Amanda Timm,
was born and raised a Texan. After obtaining a B.A. in Rehabilitation and Community Ser-
vices from Springfield College, Kathy found her calling in finance and administration. She
studied accounting and business in the Houston area and began her work with the United
Methodist Church as the financial secretary of Deer Park UMC. Her calling then led to
the Texas Annual Conference (Conference Accountant), Northern Illinois Conference
(Director of Administration), then back to Texas. Kathy joined St. Lukes UMC as the As-
sistant Finance Director and retired nine years later as the Director of Finance and IT.

JOURNEYS OF PAUL CRUISE (Oct 6 17, 2017)

Many of you have had a study with Rev. Adam Hamilton in your Sunday
School Class; now you can join him as he leads a fascinating and inspiration-
al journey following the last of the Pauls missionary voyages. Sailing from
Rome, we will explore the lands and experience the life and ministry of the
great Apostle. Deploy your every sense as we soak in the sights, sounds,
smells, and tastes of the Mediterranean world. Surrounded by ancient hills
and rolling seas, the truth of scripture will spring to life during times of practi-
cal Bible study, powerful worship, and fun-filled fellowship. More than the
places we visit, though, the people with whom we visit will make all the differ-
ence during this holy experience more than a vacation, this will be a pilgrim-
age that will touch and change your life forever. The trip is October 6-17,
2017. The first discount deadline is December 6th. Brochures with sign-up in-
formation are available in the church office.

THANK YOU
Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for the kindness and compassion you showed me and my family during the passing of my husband,
Gary. Amy and I especially want to thank those who helped facilitate the luncheon at the church so we could gather with
close friends and family prior to the service. It was heartwarming and felt like we had never been away from Nacogdo-
ches.

We are so appreciative and grateful.

Sincerely,

Nancy Willis

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP BEGINS Tue, Mar 21

When we are grieving the death of someone loved, we need the support and compassion of our fellow human beings.
Grief support groups provide an opportunity for this very healing kind of support. Meeting with others who have been
down this road before or who are experiencing the same things can be very healing. Our church's next grief support
group will begin on Tuesday, March 21. The group will meet every Tuesday for 10 weeks and study "Understanding
Your Grief" by Alan Wolfelt, PhD. The cost is $25 and that includes a copy of the studybook. To reserve your place, call
Judy or Jim Buckingham at 569-6160 or email judy.p.buckingham@gmail.com. The group is necessarily limited to ten
people so there can be comfortable and trusted caring.

HOLY WEEK PRAYER ROOMApril 10-14

Holy Week Prayer Room

Prayer Ministry will offer an opportunity to journey in prayer with Jesus during Holy Week. Beginning Monday, April 10
through Friday, April 14, a Prayer Room will be offered with a series of nine areas reflecting scripture of Christs last
days.

The Prayer Room will be available from 8:30 am 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Everyone is welcome. Come as your
