Course Description
This course is designed to acquaint students with World History from the Industrial Age through
the origins of the Cold War. Students will examine the role of technology and conflicting political
ideologies as well as the decline of Asian power and the growth of Europe, the impact of
economics on world order and the changing role of the church. Topics of study will include the
Industrial Revolution, the Age of Imperialism, and the World Wars. This course will also develop
historical skills including research, note-taking, creating and defending ideas, analyzing various
texts, exploring the historical methodology and preparing for deeper understanding the social
sciences. (NCAA Course)
Expected Outcomes
Outcome 1: Know how to use different methods of inquiry to ask questions, evaluate sources,
critically analyze and interpret data and develop interpretations supported by evidence from a
variety of primary and secondary sources.
Outcome 2: Understand and identify the major themes in global history and create comparisons
and connections between them and understand how individual persons and events can shape
the course of history.
Outcome 3: Understanding how concerns for ethics, economic choice, citizenship, and social
justice have shaped the cultures of civilizations throughout global history.
Outcome 4: Understand how faith can shape peoples actions and beliefs throughout global
history.
Grading Procedures
Students earn grades based on their accuracy on the assignment
Grades are not given, so take pride in your work as it reflects your effort
Scores for assignments taken for a grade will be entered into the gradebook when
they are graded
All assignments for a grade will be recorded within two weeks of its due date
All questions about grades will be discussed at the end of class or during office
hours

Classroom Procedures
In the spirit of Lasallian Education, our procedures come from Mullen High Schools

prepared by completing all required assignments before class and earn their grade

discussions and activities creating a positive environment that welcomes all
members

Other Information
Late work, assignments not turned in by the due date, will earn a 50%. To avoid
zero credit, students may turn in late assignments for partial credit before the
end of the specific unit the assignment takes place
Make up work will be equal to the number of days absent. It is the students
responsibility to arrange the make-up date and time for quizzes and assessments.
After five days of being in class without a quiz make-up, it will be counted as zero.
Extra credit is available! One extra credit assignment for the trimester can be
discussed with the teacher during office hours. This can add a maximum of 10

points to any assessment (except the Final Exam). This needs to be proposed and
completed at least two days before the Review Day.
Communicate issues
Ask questions in class or via email to be a creative risk taker
Share the knowledge you have with the class, but always credit appropriate
sources
Contact my by email if you will be absent for an extended period of time, need
more explanation of a topic, or have a concern about the class
Stop by during office hours at least once to say hello
