notes
traditional
This coming Wednesday is the beginning of the season
of Lent. The Sunday prior is observed as Transfiguration
Sunday in the Christian Year. It is so appropriate in many
ways as we turn our attention toward the passion of
Christ. Peter, James, and John were present with Jesus
on a mountain top when Moses and Elijah wondrously
appeared in a cloud and had a conversation with Jesus
regarding His exodus from earth in completing His
mission. Those three disciples saw Jesus in a glorified
state, perhaps like well see in heaven! In those moments
on the mountain, God the Father, spoke words of
love and affirmation to His Son in the hearing of the
disciples as Jesus years of preparation were coming to
a conclusion. The cross was immediately before Him,
resurrection was on the other side of death, ascension
would follow forty days later, the Holy Spirit would
descend on all believers ten days later. But that is not the
end. We await the return of Jesus and the glory of His
setting up His eternal kingdom when heaven comes to
earth and we dwell in His presence forever. The music of
worship this day sings of the glory of those days that lie
ahead, days when there is no night! (An excellent book
on heaven is: Heaven, by Randy Alcorn, published by
Tyndale.) - Dr. Dan Sharp
