5 min Beginning the Lesson
Review:
Raise your hand if you remember what we learned in last class.
- We learned about conjunctions.
Raise your hand if you remember what conjunctions are.
- The words that combine/join two words or two parts of sentences is
called conjunction.
We learned to use a word and in the last class and knew that the
conjunction and actually use when you are combining two sentences.
When we use the conjunction and we need to remember that we use
and with similar ideas.

Teacher will tell the students that they are going to learn about using another
conjunction and that is but.
13min Developing the Lesson:
Define the word but
- The conjunction but usually combines two words and two sentences which
have different ideas. When I say different ideas I mean they are not same
ideas.
Lets look at the example:
1. My mom is strict.
2. My mom is kind.
You can defiantly use these two sentences as individual sentences but why do we
need to do that? When I am talking about the same person and two different
qualities that she/he has it makes more sense by me combining the two sentences
rather than using them individually.
So let us how:
Because strict and kind are two different ideas and I am going to combine them with

the conjunction but. So,


My mom is strict but kind. (Using but to explain the two adjectives) you are
telling that your mom is strict but also a kind.
Now, I will pick a name and that person will tell me the answers.
Choose the correct conjunctions: and, but.
The movie is slow but good.
Frogs can hop but they cannot fly.
Vino has a fever and a terrible headache.
Tom studied hard but he failed the test.
Summer days are hot and sunny.
Sam ran for the bus but missed it.

Now, I will give you a worksheet but when you get the worksheet you will
write the date and your name on the top of the paper and work without
copying from others. If you make a noise then I will take your worksheet and
you will miss your work.

Okay, when I say1, 2, 3 you will silently go back to your seat and work on it.
Teacher will go around and see the students work.

2 min Closing the Lesson:


Collect the worksheet if they do not finish it then they will work on it in the next
class and tell them that they will be learning conjunction in the next class too.
