Shear Strength:
According to ACI 11.1.1, design of cross sections subject to shear
are based on

where Ag is the gross area of wall section and N u is the factored
axial tension force in Eqn. (5).

Shear Reinforcement:
A- When the factored shear force Vu is less than Vc / 2 , minimum
wall reinforcement according to ACI 11.9.9 or in accordance with
Chapter 14 of ACI code.
A-1 Minimum Horizontal Reinforcement Ratio:
Ratio of horizontal shear reinforcement area to gross concrete area
of vertical section, t , shall not be less than 0.0025.
Spacing of this reinforcement S 2 is not to exceed the smallest of
l w / 5 , 3 h , 45 cm .
A-2 Minimum Vertical Reinforcement Ratio:
Ratio of vertical reinforcement area to gross concrete area of
horizontal section, l is not to be taken less than the larger of
126
hw
l 0.0025 0.50 2.5 t 0.0025
l w Eqn. (8)
and 0.0025, but need not be greater than t required by Eqn. (9)
Spacing of this reinforcement S1 is not to exceed the smallest of
l w / 3 , 3 h , 45 cm .
Chapter 14 Provisions:
Minimum ratio of vertical reinforcement area to gross concrete area,
l , shall be
0.0012 for deformed bars up to 16 mm in diameter, with f y
not less than 4200 kg/cm2.
0.0015 for other deformed bars.
Minimum ratio of horizontal reinforcement area to gross concrete
area, t , shall be
0.0020 for deformed bars up to 16 mm in diameter, with f y
not less than 4200 kg/cm2.
0.0025 for other deformed bars.
The critical section for shear is taken at a distance equal to half the
wall length l w / 2 , or half the wall height hw / 2 , whichever is less.
Sections between the base of the wall and the critical section are to
be designed for the shear at the critical section, as specified in ACI
11.9.7.
