Initiative training As the Second World War began, soldiers were sometimes briefed alongside their non-commissioned
officers in case of their demise. Once the NCO was incapacitated the soldiers knew what their objective was and were
capable of showing initiative rather than sit and wait for more orders.
When a unit with this special rule loses their last NCO then make a Morale test with no modifiers.
If the test is successful then another soldier has taken over the squad and leads it just as
effectively as before. The NCO model is not removed and instead another model is and the unit
does not suffer a -1 Morale penalty if their last NCO was removed from the game. If the test is a
failure then the NCO is removed as normal.

Invincible During the campaigns of 1939-41, the German army was without equal and their Blitzkrieg tactics meant the
fall of all their foes. After some defeats in 1942, this aura of invincibility was dwindling and by 1943 it was gone
completely as the German armed forces fought a defensive war to stop the unstoppable Soviet war machine and the allies
moving through Africa.
For +2 points per Regular or Veteran model the unit can receive this special rule. If a unit with this
special rule has at least one pin marker assigned to it then it is considered to have one less pin
marker. If the unit has only one pin marker then it is considered to have none.

Reconnaissance As part of the regimental headquarters, some infantry divisions pooled manpower into dedicated
reconnaissance or scout platoons. These units provided an infantry force with the same reconnaissance intelligence as a
reece vehicle but were more vulnerable and slower. These units were often lightly armed and lacking any support weapons,
but kept them much more mobile than the infantry.
A unit with this special rule can make an escape move in the same manner as unit with the Reece
special rule. They may not move at run rate with this escape move, but after the escape move
the unit comes to a halt and its order die is flipped to down.

Combat teams A squad seldom operates as a single entity instead splitting up to provide multiple roles, such as the light
machine gunner suppressing the enemy while the rifle element advances to an outflanking position.

At the start of a turn, a unit with this special rule may split up into two combat teams. The player
may choose which models constitute each team, but at least one officer or NCO and another
model must be in one of the teams. If the unit has only one officer or NCO remaining then the unit
may not split up.

When the unit splits up the pin markers are distributed evenly between the two teams and one
order die is added to the die pool. The teams now operate as separate units unaffected by the
others pin markers or casualties. A unit that has split up into two combat teams may not split up
into further combat teams.

At the start of a turn, two combat teams that were originally from the same unit may re-join to
form a single unit again. At this point one order die is removed from the die pool and any pin
markers are added together. The teams must be in cohesion in order to re-join.
