small)community)lies)within)its)educational)environments,)which)is)where)
the)chapter)found)its)need.)A)lack)of)innovativeness)existed)within)the)school)
district,)stemming)from)a)curriculum)that)inherently)suppresses)creativity.)A)
committee)of)Carrington)FBLA)members)worked)to)find)a)solution)to)this)
problem)and)decided)to)work)with)elementary)students)to)inspire)the)next)
generation.))
Using)Genius)Hour)projects)as)a)reference,)this)committee)planned)to)
encourage)the)creative,)entrepreneurial)mindset)by)fostering)an)innovative)
environment)where)ideas)and)solutions)to)personal,)local,)and)global)matters)
are)respected)and)considered;)additionally,)materials)were)provided)to)make)
models)of)these)potential)solutions.)The)project)was)aimed)to)stimulate)a)
thirst)for)knowledge)and)ingenuity)in)students)that)will)become)the)

American(Enterprise(System:)The)United)States)ensures)protection)of)a)multitude)
of)rights)under)the)Constitution:)freedom)of)speech,)religion,)press,)etc.)In)
addition,)a)foundational)document)for)this)nation,)the)Declaration)of)
Independence,)protects)our)rights)to)life,)liberty,)and)the)pursuit)of)
happiness.)Using)this)doctrine)as)justification,)according)to)the)American)
Enterprise)Institute,)the)current)free)enterprise)system)was)crafted)in)the)
eighteenth)century)after)many)individuals)were)restricted)from)starting)or)
owning)their)own)business)without)governmental)approval.)This)system)
directly)rewards)effort)and)innovation)over)connections)and)predation,)
which)allows)entrepreneurs)to)survive)and)thrive.))
)
Conceptual(Focus:(This)entire)project)centers)on)the)concept)of)innovation,)
fostering)the)creative)side)and)encouraging)an)entrepreneurial)approach.)
Materials)were)supplied)as)mediums)for)the)students)ideas.)Bubber,)a)form)
of)putty;)Kinetic)Sand,)a)granular)material)that)holds)its)shape)when)moved;)
and)Little)Bits,)simplified)electronic)circuits,)were)options)for)the)children)to)
experiment)with.)Students)also)had)access)to)Osmo)activities)that)allowed)
students)to)use)real)life)manipulatives)to)control)the)interactions)on)the)iPad.)
The)only)instructions)given)at)first)were)to)create)something)new)and)
different.)Each)session)included)a)lesson)of)sorts,)instilling)the)values)of)the)
free)enterprise)system.)As)the)sessions)continued,)the)lessons)grew)to)be)
more)interactive)and)conversational.)For)example,)the)final)session)included)
a)lesson)in)which)the)students)were)to)choose)a)problem)of)any)scale)and)
formulate)three)solutions)to)the)issue.)Innovation)was)the)ideal)that)
remained)the)overarching)principle)and)goal)throughout)the)project.)

School:((Carrington)High)School)currently)enrolls)168)high)school)students,)eighty)
middle)school)students,)and)employs)twentyCthree)teachers)and)two)
administrators.(

Community:( (Carrington)is)a)small)community)with)a)population)of)2,075)people.)
Carrington)is)known)as)The)Central)City,)as)its)geographical)location)is)in)
the)center)of)the)cities)of)Fargo,)Grand)Forks,)Minot,)and)Bismarck.))

Carringtons)main)industries)include)agriculture)and)agricultural)business.)
However,)Carrington)is)becoming)more)diverse)and)supports)several)local)
businesses,)including)banks,)restaurants,)and)churches.)

members)what)was)needed)in)the)community)and)what)could)promote)the)
American)Enterprise)System.)The)results)were)varied,)but)a)recurring)
concept)focused)on)a)systematic)norm)that)general)education)has)functioned)
with)for)many)decades:)a)heavy)reliance)on)assessments)and)grades.)To)alter)
that)precedent,)a)mandate)must)be)passed)through)the)states)governmental)
process;)however,)the)lack)of)creativity)in)education)can)be)addressed.)After)
this)survey)was)completed,)it)was)decided)that)a)need)of)the)school)and)
community)was)to)provide)more)innovative)opportunities.))

Brainstorming:)The)planning)committee)began)to)research)projects)that)would)
satisfy)the)needs)of)the)school)and)community.)The)original)idea)had)been)to)
complete)a)Community)Service)Project,)so)the)committee)was)focused)on)
community)impacts,)as)well)as)school)impacts.)Many)ideas)were)shared,)but)
none)satiated)the)needs)of)all)four)criteria.)One)member)exclaimed)her)idea)
of)a)project)similar)to)a)Genius)Hour,)and)that)was)the)last)idea)that)was)
written)down.)

Decision(and(Specifics:(After)considering)all)the)options,)the)planning)committee)
voted)unanimously)to)pursue)a)project)based)on)the)underlying)principles)of)
a)Genius)Hour.)The)age)group)for)which)this)project)would)be)offered)to)was)
then)narrowed)to)fourth,)fifth,)and)sixth)graders.)The)time)period)was)then)
agreed)upon:)5)1Chour)sessions)during)the)month)of)January.)It)was)also)
decided)that)lessons)of)varying)intensity)would)be)administered)to)transmit)
the)benefits)of)the)free)enterprise)system.)Another)meeting)of)this)committee)
formulated)the)lessons)that)were)taught.)

Partnership:(The)planning)committee)approached)the)after)school)program)in)the)
hopes)of)building)a)partnership)to)facilitate)this)project.)The)adult)
supervisors)welcomed)the)idea)in)with)open)arms;)as)it)turned)out,)they)were)
searching)for)student)organizations)to)present)to)their)students.)This)allowed)
the)project)to)move)forward)as)planned)with)the)target)audience)engaged)
and)ready)to)learn.)This)partnership)is)one)that)will)be)able)to)be)sustained)
for)an)indefinite)amount)of)time.))
)
Lesson(Materials:(The)time)spent)with)this)group)evolved)every)time.)The)first)
presentations)were)very)simplistic,)introducing)concepts)slowly.)Each)
presentation)introduced)new)concepts)and)slightly)challenged)their)thinking.)
For)example,)the)first)lesson)simply)taught)definitions)of)terms;)the)second)
lesson)asked)the)students)to)create)something)new;)the)third)lesson)
challenged)the)students)to)create)something)new)and)market)the)product)to)
the)other)students;)the)fourth)lesson)made)the)children)to)find)solutions)to)
real)world)problems;)the)fifth)lesson)challenged)the)students)to)present)a)
solution)to)a)real)world)problem)to)the)other)students.)Each)lesson)grew)
their)marketing)and)critical)thinking)skills)and)continued)to)make)them)reach)
