WORKSHEET
In the following text find the verbs in present tense, the future tense will, be going to, the
frequency adverbs and the cognates and place them on the chart.
Pizza Restaurant
I eat pizza at least once a week with my roommate. I usually order a large pizza with three toppings:
sausage, pepperoni, and green onions, but my roommate doesn't like sausage or green onions, so we usually order a
half-and-half pizza. On one half, we order the toppings I like, and on the other half, he asks for mushrooms, bacon,
and olives. We both like thick crust, so we can agree on that. Also, we always order extra cheese on the pizza.
Besides the pizza, we sometimes order bread sticks and a 2-liter bottle of drink. Some pizza restaurants run weekly
specials, so if you buy two pizzas at the regular price, you get the third pizza at a discount. So, if we have pizza
leftover from a party, we throw it in the fridge and eat it for the next several days.
Tomorrow in the afternoon my rommate and I will have a party in our room, so we will order at least three
large pizzas, two orders of bread sticks and 4 liter bottles of drink. Everytime I order a pizza I pay in cash, but I
think this time we will pay with my credit card. Our friends are going to bring some cheeseburgers and a large order
of fries, too, so I think it will be a great party, with a lot to eat, and nobody won’t be disappointed.

Football or Soccer ?
People have been playing football for over 3,000 years. Nobody can tell where it
was played for the first time. There is evidence that it was played in Japan, China, Rome
and Greece. But the birthplace of modern soccer is Britain (both England and Scotland).
Although it was a war game (The first football game took place in the east of
England - where the locals played 'football' with the severed head of a Danish Prince
they had defeated in a battle.) In medieval times kicking, punching, biting and gouging
were allowed. So King Edward III tried to ban football. But the game was too popular.
Even Queen Elisabeth I couldn't stop it, although soccer players were jailed for a week.
In 1815, the famous English School, Eton College, established a set of rules.
The Football Association was founded in 1863. In 1869 any handling of the ball was
forbidden. In the 1880s students at Oxford University created a slang word for the word
association. They shortened it to "SOC" and added "ER". So the word soccer was
created. The same happened to Rugby (RUGGER).
