CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND

RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions drawn based

from the result obtained and the recommendations offered.

Summary of Findings

From the analysis of data and the result obtained in the previous chapter,

the following were summarized as follows:

1 On the Level of Comprehension in Reading of the Grade 8

Underachievers in The Singa, Bumboat Cruise on the Singapore
River and The Changing Morals of Korean Students as revealed by
the Pre-test and Post-test Results with respect to the following topics:

1 The Singa, the respondents performed fairly satisfactorily in the

pre-test while in the post-test, they performed satisfactorily;

2 Bumboat Cruise on the Singapore River, the respondents

performed fairly satisfactorily in the pre-test while in the post-test,

they performed satisfactorily; and

3 The Changing Morals of Korean Students, the respondents

performed fairly satisfactorily in the pre-test while in the post-test,

they performed satisfactorily.

2 On Significant Difference on the Level of Comprehension in Reading of
the Grade 8 Underachievers as Revealed by the Pre-test and Post-test
Results.

2.1 The Singa, statistically, the result of the pre-test and post-test is

not significant;
2.2 Bumboat Cruise on the Singapore River, statistically, the result of

the pre-test and post-test is significant; and

2.3 The Changing Morals of Korean Students, statistically, the result of

the pre-test and the post-test is not significant.

3 Difficulties Encountered by the Grade 8 Underachievers with respect to
Reading Comprehension on:

1 Language, 15 out of 17 are having difficulties;

2 Attitude, 9 out of 17 are having difficulties;
3 Learning Environment, 5 out of 17 are having difficulties; and
4 Social Status, 2 out of 17 are having difficulties.

Conclusion

Based from the summary of findings, it was concluded that the

comprehension of the respondents improved after being exposed to enrichment

activities for reading comprehension.

Recommendations

Based from the findings and conclusion drawn, the following

recommendations are hereby offered:

1 Conduct remedial classes regularly for the underachievers.

2 Use enrichment activities that would capture the attention and interest

of the underachievers to help them in improving their comprehension.

3 Conduct further studies using other variables.
