LAGUNA LAKE: EUTROPHICATION AND OTHER POLLUTION INDICATORS:

SENTENCE OUTLINE

I.INTRODUCTION
A. Laguna de Bay is the freshwater source and the domestic and industrial wastewater
dumpsite for more than 26 million people.
B. The rapid accumulation of pollutants in the Lake increases the rate of eutrophication
or death of the lake.
C. This video report aims to determine the amount of nutrient and pollutant
accumulation, its effects on the lake sustainability, and the steps done by the authority to
mitigate these effects
D. Transition: Lead, don't push, the reader into the body of the paper. (PUSHES

II. BODY OF THE REPORT

A. The Laguna Lake is being used as a water source and a dumpsite for
domestic purposes as well as many small-scale and large scale industries.
i. The lake provides a maximum of 300,000 m 3/day of potable water
to nearby towns through Maynilad Water Services, Inc.
ii. The use of lake resources for aquaculture caused the uncontrolled
increase in fish pens and fish cages and decline in lake productivity,
leading to the establishment of the Zoning and Management Plan
(ZOMAP).
iii. The lake is also being used as a source and sink of 2.04 billion
m3/year industrial cooling water of the National Power Corporation
for the Kalayaan Hydropower Plant and the Philippine Petroleum
Corporation Refinery in Pililla, Rizal, leading to thermal pollution of
about 20C rise in temperature near the discharge points.
iv. Besides these factors, the influx of polluted water from the lakes
tributaries would also affect water quality.

B. The presence of highly polluted tributaries such as the Meycauayan and

Pasig river may also significantly contribute to the characteristics of pollutants
present in the lake.
i. Slight data on the pollution load of Meycauayan and Pasig River
ii. Effect on the lake water quality
iii. Thus, it could be seen that the two aforesaid factors have significant
effects on the death of me.

C. There are different kinds of organic and inorganic compounds, as well as

other use-specific compounds present in the lake and it extremely affects the
lake ecosystem and its surrounding communities.
i. Organic compounds
a. Types
b. Effects
ii. Inorganic compounds

b. Effects
iii. Use specific compounds
a. Sources
b. Effects
iv. Accumulation trends
v. If these trends would continue, there would be major effects on the
life of the lake.

D. It could be observed from the data that if the way the Laguna Lake is used
now would continue for the next 10 50 years, the water quality would
significantly deteriorate leading to the lakes rapid death.
i. Statistics?
ii. Thus different measures should be conducted by both individuals
and the government organization tasked to protect the lake

E. Different programs, mandates and other propaganda are currently

promulgated or would be promulgated by the Laguna Lake Development
Authority on protecting the Lake.
i. Current mandantes, programs and such
j. Interview on significant achievements and future programmes

III. CONCLUSION
A. The Laguna lake, the largest freshwater body in the Philippines is in danger of
death due to excessive nutrient loading and high pollutant load from different
types of sources.
B. As seen in the data, if these trends continue, the Lake would not be able to
sustain life after a certain amount of time.
C. The different programs of the LLDA should be fully supported by Filipinos and
Philippine-based industries in order to preserve the quality of the lake.
