Homework Project
Handed to students on Friday of Week 5
Due on Monday of Week 9 for presentation to the class

TOPIC: Space Our Solar System

TASK: You task is to create a physical model or representation of Space. You can choose
Our Solar System, Planets, The Milky Way, Asteroids, Comets, Black Holes, The International
Space Station, The Hubble Telescope, The Sun, Stars or a similar aspect of Space.

GUIDELINES:
You will build a physical model or representation of an aspect of Space.

TASKS MARKS

Create a project which includes aspects of Space. You must create a 30


physical representation of the topic you have chosen.
Neatly label your model with information about size, distance from the sun 10
and other interesting facts
Make your project colourful, creative and interesting. 10
Quality of model 10

Write a 1-2 minute speech describing your project and explaining why you 10
choose this topic. Include fun and interesting facts by researching your
topic online. You must use palm cards. You can type the speech or
handwrite it but it must be turned in with your project.
Present your speech and project to the class 30
Speech prepared with palm cards (10 pts)
Voice is clear and well projected (5 pts)
Eye contact is made with the audience (5 pts)
Speech is at least 1 min long and does not exceed 2 mins (5 pts)
Your speech must explain details about your model (5 pts)
TOTAL 100

Marks: Outstanding = 90-100, High = 80-90, Average = 70=80, Basic = 60-70, Incomplete 59
or below

During the last weeks of Term 1, we will hold a gallery for all students to share their work
with other students and teachers in the school. We are looking into a day when parents can
come and view these as well (stay tuned). This project is to be completed at home and
should be completed a little each night. Do not wait until the last minute!
Get creative!
Model:
Some ideas for creating the model include using a circular mobile, a shoebox, a hanger, or a
stand, a drawn picture, cardboard disks, etc. You can make the planets out of computer
printouts, paper drawings, modeling clay, styrofoam balls, paper mache, cardboard, etc. If
you are struggling to find supplies, please speak to your teacher ASAP.
