CIRCULAR
Sub: Circular on CAT I and CAT II - reg

The schedule for Continuous Assessment Tests I and II (CAT I and CAT II) for Winter 2016-2017
is given in the Annexure. As per norms, CAT I need to be conducted as a closed-book/note
book type and CAT II as an open book / notebook examination.

Preparation of question papers

As per norms, the minimal number of questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills should
be 80% for CAT I and 100% for CAT II. Faculty members may please refer to the action verbs
given in the revised Blooms taxonomy for setting the questions related to HOTs.

Moderation of question papers

The Schools may constitute a Moderation Board to moderate the question papers. To
facilitate moderation of the question papers, the faculty members are required to submit the
question paper atleast one week before the commencement of the CAT. The moderation
board is authorised to review the questions and make suitable suggestion for improving the
quality (including HOTs related questions) of the question paper. Question papers for the
common courses may be prepared, get moderated at School level, and required number of
copies be made by the faculty concerned and the bundles be sent to the Programme Schools
concerned for the conduct of exams.

Attendance and Eligibility

Attendance entry will be closed at the midnight of 16th February (Thursday) for CAT I and 30-
03-2017 (Thursday) for CAT II to facilitate generation of debarred students list on 17th
February (Friday) and 31-03-2017 (Friday), respectively. Debarred students (less than 75%
attendance) will not be permitted to write Continuous Assessment Tests. Request for
posting/change of attendance, by the faculty, after the aforementioned dates will not be
entertained. Students who are eligible to write the exams can see the CAT venue details under
their VTop student login.

For PBL Courses

In case a PBL faculty (in non-CAL) wishes to conduct only one internal assessment test, it can
be done during CAT II period as an open book/note book examination. If more than one
written exam is planned for PBL courses, atleast one of those examinations should be of open
book/note book type.
