Studying Diversity in the Work Place

Individual differences
Age
Race and ethnicity
The biggest challenge when it comes to race
and ethnicity is not how we look I believe, the
hardest challenge to overcome is language
barriers, and cultural differences I would say.
Gender
Men and women are born and created
differently. Men are from Mars, women are
from Venus. Our gender put labels on us
before we have shown what we are capable
of. Women are soft, men are tougher. Women
cry, men dont. Even though our gender makes
us different from one another we still shouldnt
make assumptions on how a person is. Double-
blind dilemma explains how women can suffer
in leadership positions, never get credit for
doing just right. Damned if they do, damned
if the dont.
Age
Baby boomers, generation X, millennials, we
are not only humans with different ages but
also humans with different skills. Age might
be a great factor when it comes to life
experience, but there are also plenty of
highly skilled people in this world who are
younger than me. Passion is a good factor
for learning, and passion has no age limit.
Work position
Hierarchy sometimes change people,
for the better or worse, and not only the
ones having a higher position. People at
lower positions can also withdraw
themselves from the ones higher up the
ladder.
Individual differences
We are all different, and everything
is in constant change. How we are
and acting today doesnt mean
that thats how we will be and act in
the future. The key is to learn to
accept and respect each other,
and our differences.
Benefits of diversity

Multicultural organizations value and support diversity.

Age and gender diversity bring in different ways of thinking

and acting on a problem.

CQ creates a good ability to adapt and adjust to new

cultures.

Communication.
Benefits of diversity #1
Multicultural organizations value and support diversity.

With a multi cultural environment

the company engage their workers
to respect and accept differences.

Having a lot of knowledge about

different cultures and languages
will help the company grow, and
obtain a reliable approach in the
countries where they operate.

Knowledge is power!
Benefits of diversity #2
Age diversity bring in different ways of thinking and acting on a problem.

Younger people are often highly

creative, and a student, Leon
Bellan, at Vanderbilt university
came up with the idea of using
cotton candy to create blood
vessels.
Benefits of diversity #3
Gender diversity bring in different ways of thinking and acting on a problem.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

This means that we not only communicate
differently, we also receive information
differently.
Benefits of diversity #4
CQ creates a good ability to adapt and adjust to new cultures.

People who are willing to learn from cross-cultural

environments, and adjust easily to situations with
different people show flexibility and willingness to
learn and grow.
Benefits of diversity #5
Communication.

Communication is important in most

relationships, it doesnt matter if it is
private affairs or business wise. To
communicate in a way so that the
receiver understand what I mean is vital.
In many cultures the written part can
differ a lot from the oral, also the silent
language can be a huge barrier to
overcome. Body language is another
way of communicating and may also
differ between countries and cultures.
