1. In the Tourism Promotion class of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines
Senior High School I have observed, the room is filled with very energetic students. The students are actively participating in class discussion. The learning environment is so alive. I can tell that Maam Buan is prepared for the classroom discussion. Maam Buan is integrating the parts of the lesson plan in the discussion, she even tells to the class the specific set of objectives that the students will be achieving after the lesson. Then, after her motivating introduction, she the proceeds to the discussion. In her discussion, she is making some green jokes to get the interest of her students. In some of her class, the students are interested in relationship, and the others are also unique. As the discussion finished, she then gives a simple quiz to evaluate if her students have listen attentively or she needs to teach the lesson again. 2. In determining the Achieved Curriculum, questions like do the learning outcomes achieved by the learners approximate the level of performance set at the beginning of the curriculum?, are the learning outcomes achieved higher or lower than the objectives set? and many more questions have been running through my mind through the discussion.
My Analysis
1. Evaluation is the process of determining the value of something or the extent
to which goals are being achieved. In education, evaluation is usually done to measure the learning of the students and to test if the objectives has been achieved. Maam Buan is giving short quizzes right after she discusses a lesson. 2. Criteria are set standards to be followed in assessment. I can tell that Maam Buan is always thinking if the learners likely to be interested in the experience? As the teachers, it is her task to device an activity that will arouse the interest of the learner. She is teaching on how to promote a certain place. She then relates this lesson to a relationship, which gathers the interest of most teenager students. After getting the students attention, she is then assured that the students are listening. This will greatly help in the teaching- learning process. 3. The process of evaluation is essentially the process of determining to what extent the educational objectives are actually being realized by the program of curriculum and instruction. The learners learning achievement is one of the factors in evaluating a curriculum. This determines if the components of the curriculum are efficient enough or needs to be modified.
My Reflections
1. In the classroom observation we have conducted, Maam Buan used the
syllabus she has given as a guide in her lessons. The curriculum is about promoting tourism spots. Maam Buan uses the Generative Approach of instruction that involve the students by asking them their knowledge on how to promote tourist spots. Maam Buan relate this topic in courting a girl, thus gathering the attention of most students. The students are more interested to share their thoughts to the class making a lively class discussion. The students learning is then assessed in the quiz given after the discussion. 2. As a learner, I have experienced different types of teachers. Teachers that are very great, teachers that just go to class, and teachers who gave so many requirements for a minor subject. I can say that the teacher is great if there are a lot of learning through different teaching techniques and styles. Also, there are teachers who just go to class and instruct the students to copy this and that, answer this and that, teachers who go to class just for the sake of attendance. And lastly is the very irritating teacher, the teacher who gave so many requirements as if she is the only subject teacher. I think these type of teachers needs to be eradicated from teaching because they only promote stress for the students and not efficient enough. 3. Linking curriculum, instruction, and assessment will greatly affect the teaching-learning process. Curriculum, instruction, and assessment are very important factors in the students learning. The lack of one will be the insufficiencies of the others. Meaning if the curriculum is effective enough, if the proper instruction is not given in implementing it, the curriculum will not give the best result it can create and goes the other two.
