SASD gets funding for cutting edge lighting project

AMBER LEVENHAGEN
Unified Newspaper Group

A bright idea for a grant sparked

a new lighting project geared to
enhance classroom experiences
for students and teachers.
Stoughton Area School District
received funding from Stough-
ton Utilities and American Public
Power Association to complete
a tunable light project for three
classrooms at Fox Prairie Elemen-
tary School and two classrooms at
Stoughton High School.
The project involves the instal-
lation of tunable LED lights,
which started at the end of
December and was completed
early February.
There are other benefits as well.
Since the lights can give off dif-
ferent colors and intensities of
light and mimic natural sunlight,

One frame at a time

The library held a stop-motion animated workshop on
Thursday, Feb. 23. A professional mini-studio was provid-
ed for students to use, and each was able to create their
own animated videos, one frame at a time. From action
quests to football games, Lego action figures were used to
create the animated films.

Six veterans were honored at

a Quilts of Valor ceremony at the
VFW Sunday, Jan. 22.
Quilts of Valor is an organiza-
tion with the mission to cover vet-
erans impacted by war with the
comforting and healing quilts.
Each quilt is crafted by a volunteer
and has three main parts: a top lay-
er that represents the communities
and individuals of our nation, the
center batting that offers warmth
and the backing that holds the
pieces of the quilt together.
A special joint tribute was
offered to Darrell March and his
daughter, Sherri Barrett. March
was a Sergeant First Class, serv-
ing in the Navy, Marines and the
Army starting in 1967. He served
in Vietnam and is a member of the
Stoughton VFW, American Legion
and Masonic Lodge.
Barrett was a sergeant in the
army from 1998 to 2005, serving
in the Iraq War during Operation
Iraqi Freedom II. She was the first
woman in the 4th Cavalry to be
awarded the Cavalry Stetson and
Spurs. She also is a member of
