to this activity? (at least 2 other routines/activities for each objective)

__1. Will predict what is happening next in their classroom schedule __

Will predict what the next step will be in whole group activities
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How will YOU encourage children to interact with each other? _____________________________________________
Children will be encouraged to interact with one another by having them help one another make predictions about what
will happen when the alka seltzer and the water get mixed together. Also they will be encouraged to help one another draw
their ghost faces on the film canisters.

LESSON SEQUENCE: What you will do/say? What the child/ren is/are to do/say? What to do if (think it through,
problem-solve before you begin instruction, and plan for child success).

Beginning: (how will you 1. introduce the lesson: multiple means of representation: demonstration, concrete objects, etc.
2. activate prior knowledge (formative assessment)? Remember natural cues; What questions will you ask?

What you will do/say (including questions): What you expect the child/ren to do or say:
Friends today we are going to do an experiment.
Do you know what an experiment is? When we do something to see what happens.
That is a great answer about what an experiment is. Yay!
(Holds up a film canister) Do you know what this
is? No.
This is a film canister. When we use a camera the
picture goes on film and this holds the film. Cool.
Today we are going to draw faces with markers
on these because they are going to be our ghosts. Yay!
(Hands out the film canisters and markers) (Draws faces on the film canisters)

If any child does not respond (look, answer, etc.) to intro as you expect or wish, what will you do/say? (error correction:
cues, prompts:

describe)___If a child does not answer the questions the teacher will prompt them by asking questions that will lead the
child to the correct answer. If a child does not draw a face on their film canister the teacher will prompt their peers to
show him/her the face they drew so that this will encourage the him/her to participate in the activity.
______________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Middle: (How will the lesson progress, such as multiple means of representation: including technology, models, etc.;
multiple means of engagement: instructional strategies, your role/s, questions; multiple means of expression:
formative/summative assessment.)

Instructional Strategies: _Questioning, Least to Most, Most to Least, Verbal Prompts, Positive Peer Role Models.
_____________________________________________________________________________

Your role/s: ___ Encourage, Show, Facilitate, Ask Questions

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Representation: _The information will be represented orally through whole group discussion about the topic. Also the
information will be represented through manipulatives that the student will use in order to create a reaction from the
experiment that is taking place. They will then be able to see the result of the experiment visually.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Engagement: __The children will be engaged through oral discussion and by being able to use the manipulatives that they
created in order to participate in the lesson.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Expression: _The children will be able to express themselves orally and through creating their manipulatives that will be
used within the experiment.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

What you will do/say: What you expect the child/ren do or say:
What faces did you guys draw on your film
canisters? Scary faces because a ghost scares people.
Ghosts do scare people. How do ghosts move? They fly.
How should we make our ghosts fly? We could throw them.
That is a great idea but I have another one.
(Holds up alka seltzer tablet) We are going to use
this to make it fly. What is it?
This is called alka seltzer and you use it to
help when you have an upset tummy. When
you stick it in what it fizzes. Cool.
We are going to put warm water in our ghost
film canisters then put the alka seltzer in it.
After that we will put the lid on it then place it on
the ground. Whoa can we go do it.
Yes lets all line up at the sink. (lines up at the sink and fills the canisters with water)
Now that we have the water we need to
line up to go outside. (Line up to go outside)

If a child does not respond as you expect or wish (answer, participate), what will you do/say? (error correction: cues,
prompts: describe)

___ If a child does not answer the questions the teacher will prompt them by asking questions that will lead the child to
the correct answer. If the child does not fill up his/her film canister the teacher will have a peer ask if they could help
him/her fill up a film canister. If the child will not get into line the teacher will ask the student if they can be a helper and
be the line leader.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

End: (how will you conclude the lesson, summarizing: Today we learned and transition to the next activity or
routine?)

What you will do/say: What you expect the child/ren do or say:

(Teacher will lead children outside)

Come over by the door because we are going
to do this one at a time. (Children move towards the door)
What do you think will happen when I put
the alka seltzer in the ghost? It will fly.
Let us see if what you predicted will happen. Yay!
Come here J. Hold up your ghost. (Holds up ghost)
(teacher places alka seltzer in the film canister
and closes the top) Put your film canister
on the ground with the lid on the ground. (Places ghost on the ground with the lid on the ground)
(Ghost shoots up off the ground) Whoa. So cool.
(Repeat with every child)
What did you guys see? The ghosts flew.

If a child does not respond as you expect or wish, what will you do/say? (error correction: cues, prompts: describe)

______ If a child does not answer the questions the teacher will prompt them by asking questions that will lead the child
to the correct answer. If a child does not follow instruction by placing their ghost on the ground the teacher will verbally
prompt them to perform the instruction but if they do not do that the teacher will perform hand over hand to help the child
execute the task.

RECORDING CHILD PROGRESS: Attach the completed data sheetsee sample below (writing on back of lesson
plan if hand-written or on separate sheet is ok). The data collection should have a key to explain what the marks mean, a
total of the data, and an interpretation which clearly states whether or not the child met the objective.

TEACHER REFLECTION ON PRACTICE: How did the lesson go? (Complete this after the lesson)

1. What evidence (data) did you collect to show learning or lack thereof?

________Data was collected on if the objective was achieved.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Based on summative assessment data, who did learn and who needs more instruction? __Based on the data the child does
not need any more instruction. The rest of the children were able to perform these objectives as well.
__________________________

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Based on the above result, what will you do next (continue to add content or re-teach this content?) (CECS4.8)
___Based on the above result, content will be added.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

What worked: _The children enjoyed being able to participate in an hands on experience and that kept their attention
throughout the lesson.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

What did not work: ___Some of the ghosts did not work and that led to some children not having the full learning
experience of this lesson.
_______________________________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. What will you do next time you teach this lesson (what stays the same? What changes and how? ADDRESS what did
not work. How will you change it so next time it works)?

______The next time I teach this lesson I will keep the hands on aspects but I will perfect the ghosts actually working so
that all the children will get to experience seeing the ghost fly.

DATA COLLECTION: Your collection should be detailed enough to provide you with enough information to make an
accurate judgment about the childs learning during the lesson and appropriate instructional decisions regarding what to
teach next. The following is an example of a data collection tableyours does NOT have to look like this one, but you do
need detailed performance data, total, indication if the child met the objective, a place for comments, and the key (NO
ANECDOTAL data for these lesson plans).
