This artifact is prop box for a preschool classroom that is oriented around
camping. Before I developed this prop box, I listened and watched for the
interests of the children. After their fall break, I listened to many stories about
their families camping trips. It was the childrens interests in camping that
pushed me to develop this prop box. I began finding camping items I had
personally as well as creating items, such as the smores sticks, to transform their
dramatic play center into the great outdoors. I made sure that every item I placed
in the prop box could be an item or area of learning they could discover. I also
created learning objectives, vocabulary words, songs, fingerplays, activities, as
well as finding books on camping that would enhance their learning and fun!
3. How will you use what you have learned in the future?
I will use my knowledge about each childs interests and create learning
experiences that match. Not only will these learning experiences be fun, but they
will build on the childrens prior knowledge and gently guide them to all levels. In
the future I will continue to make prop boxes for the children and will change their
environment around them to meet their needs and interests.
