Time Instructional Procedures and Strategies

Beginning the Lesson
Introduction of the teacher (because of first day teaching)
Review on the previous class about materials on waterproof.
Teacher introduces the lesson topic for the day.
10min
Ask them what they know about the floating and sinking.
s
Explain what floating and sinking means showing the picture in a
PowerPoint.
Floating is when an object is in the water whereas sinking is when
the whole object is below the surface.
Inform them what happened in the bible in luke5 (connection with
floating and sinking)
When God commands the fisherman to put the net deep in to the
waters and when they do so, they catch a large amount of fish and
filled the whole two boats and due to the heavy mount of fish boat

25min Ask them why do objects float?

s Take responses from the students.
Explain that objects float due to the molecules in it which is very tiny in some
objects like rocks it is squished tightly whereas in some objects like wood the
molecules are more spread out.
Explain them that every objects are made up of particles but we cannot see it
Demonstration with the marbles.
Keep 6 or 7 marbles in one group without touching each other while on the
next group of marbles keep it all together without any space.

Tell them to see the two groups of marbles and explain that if the particles are
separated then it has less dense whereas if the particles are together then it has
more density.
Next have students in the class circle around the object that you
have the water in.
First introduce them to the objects and ask them to predict if it
floats or sink and ask the reason.
.Wood, sponge, penny, pop sickle, Marble, feather etc.
Before the demonstration teacher tells the students that they are not
allowed to splash water and play with it. If they play then they cannot
see the experiment or get a chance to do it.
Let them see the demonstration on floating and sinking.
Hold up one item at a time and ask the students if they think that item
will sink or float.
Pick one or two student and let them do it.
Then after they predict, put it in the water and see what happens.
Keep the record in the board.
Distribute the worksheet.
