Are there any medications or cures for Parkinsons?

Parkinsons has no cure for it yet, but medications could help control the symptoms. According
to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, medications may help you manage problems with
walking, movement and tremor. These medications increase or substitute for dopamine.
Parkinsons is not contagious. We dont know a cure for Parkinsons yet, but scientists are
currently funding research projects exploring n ew and better treatments for Parkinson's and,
ultimately, a cure. Even though there is no cure, there are medications to help control the
symptoms of Parkinsons. The symptoms of Parkinsons are tremor, slowed movement, rigid
muscles, impaired posture and balance, loss of automatic movements, speech changes, writing
changes, etc. Medications that could help are dopamine promoter, antidepressant, and anti
tremor.

Is PD viral or bacterial?
Parkinsons is neither Viral nor Bacterial, but the disease could be linked to both. A ccording to
CNBC, in rare instances, Parkinson's disease may be caused by a viral infection or by exposure
to environmental toxins such as pesticides, carbon monoxide, or the metal manganese. P D is
not a viral or bacterial disease. In other words, it is not caused by a virus or bacteria, but it could
be caused by one of the above.

What are some of the preventative measures of Parkinsons Disease?


Because the cause of Parkinson's is unknown, proven ways to prevent the disease also remain
a mystery. According to medicine.net, recent research has found that there may be things that
you can do to prevent getting PD. Some of the things include caffeine, tea and cola. Others are
Green tea and aerobic exercise. All of these may prevent you from getting Parkinsons disease.
Also, eating a diet too high in iron puts you at an increased risk of developing Parkinsons
disease. High iron foods include clams, liver, sunflower seeds, nuts, beef, lamb, beans, whole
grains, dark leafy greens, dark chocolate, and tofu.

What does your immune system do in PD?


Recent studies show that the immune system may have a greater role in PD than we all
thought. According to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, a recent study shows t hat the
immune system attacks cells in Parkinsons. If scientists can demonstrate that certain immune
cells attack and kill neurons in people with PD, it will open the door to new approaches to cure
PD.

What are the statistics of PD?


An estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide live with Parkinsons disease. According to
Mayo Clinic, In the United States, as many as one million individuals live with PD, which is more
than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and Lou Gehrig's
disease. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease each year,
and this number does not reflect the thousands of cases that go undetected. Incidence of
Parkinsons increases with age, but an estimated four percent of people with PD are diagnosed
before the age of 50. Statistics have shown that men are slightly more likely to have Parkinsons
disease than women.
