Installing the processor
Caution: When installing a CPU heatsink and fan that the motherboard or the surf
ace mount resistors NOT of the bracket of the fan will be scratched. If the scar
s of the fan bracket on the motherboard, can be caused heavy damage to the mothe
rboard or its components. On most motherboards are sitting on the processor sock
et small surface mount resistors, which can be damaged by a careless installatio
n of the fan. Do not use sharp-edged fan with fan housing or sharp brackets. Ins
tall the fan in a well lit work area so you can see the motherboard and the proc
essor socket well.
Before installing the processor
The motherboard detects the CPU clock speed and system bus frequency of the proc
essor automatically. You can change these settings, you put the jumper on the mo
therboard or change the settings in the setup utility of the system. We strongly
recommend to not overclock processors or other components so that they do not e
xceed the rated speed. Note: An overclocking of components may affect the reliab
ility of the system and cause system errors. When overclocking the motherboard c
an be due to overheating of the components in which the specified limits are exc
eeded, permanent damage. This motherboard has a LGA775 socket. Note when selecti
ng a processor performance requirements of the system. The performance depends o
n the processor design, the clock speed and system bus frequency processor, as w
ell as on the size of the internal cache and external cache memory.

Chapter 3 Using BIOS About the Setup Utility
The computer uses the latest "American Megatrends Inc." BIOS, the Windows Plug a
nd Play. The CMOS chip on the motherboard contains the ROMSetup instructions for
configuring the motherboard BIOS. The BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) Setu
p Utility displays the configuration state of the system and provides options fo
r adjusting the system parameters. The parameters are stored in a battery buffer
ed by CMOS RAM stored so that information is ignored even when the computer. Whe
n you turn the system is configured with the values stored in CMOS. The BIOS set
up utility, you can configure the following: • • • • Hard drives, floppy drives
and peripherals Video display type and display options Password protection to pr
event unauthorized use of power management
In the Setup Utility settings affect the performance of the computer. Familiariz
e yourself with the options before using the service setup program. This chapter
discusses the options of the setup utility are described.
Standard configuration
In the Setup Utility is already a default configuration is set. You should read
this chapter, however, if you need to make changes at a later date. The setup ut
ility should be used in the following cases: • • • • • When changing the system
configuration when a configuration error is detected and you are asked to make c
hanges to the setup utility to resolve IRQ conflicts when making changes to the
configuration of power saving when changing the password or other changes to the
security setup

BIOS flashing. If the motherboard has the option "Firmware Write Protect" under
the "Advanced BIOS Features" features, disable it. (Firmware Write Protect preve
nts BIOS from being overwritten.) Create a bootable system disk. (For informatio
n on creating a bootable system disk, you can see the online help of Windows.) D
ownload the Flash Utility and new BIOS file from the manufacturer's website. Cop
y these files to the system disk created in step 3. Turn off the computer and in
sert the system disk in the floppy drive of the computer. (You may need to run t
he setup utility and change the boot priority options on the "Advanced BIOS Feat
ures Setup" so that the computer is first started from the floppy drive.) Enter
