in a commanding position leading up to Mays primary.1 Democrats not only give the Mayor high marks
for the job he is doing and express optimism about the direction of the city under his leadership, they
overwhelmingly support his reelection in the upcoming Democratic Primary.

Both Darlene Harris and John Welch are largely unknown. Harris and Welch garner favorability
ratings of only 31% and 17% respectively. In the case of Harris, her negatives (17% unfavorable) are
higher than the Mayors even though a slight majority (52%) of voters has no opinion or has never
heard of the councilwoman (30% no opinion, 23% never heard). Welchs profile is even more obscure
with over half of the primary electorate (51%) having never heard of him, and another 30% who say
they have no opinion of him.
Bottom Line
In summary, Mayor Peduto is a very strong incumbent and is in solid position to win the Democratic
Primary this May. An aggressive communication effort which highlights the Mayors achievements in
office and his commitment to continue moving the city forward should set the Mayor on path for a robust
re-election in November.
