I have extensive experience working with various entities including; local schools,
AEA staff, colleges, and business and industry. With an opportunity to be a shared
teacher with Sheldon Community High School and Northwest Iowa Community
Colleges Career Academy over the last 3 years I have worked hard to develop
partnerships with all of these entities to collaborate and align our programs to meet
the needs of student programs and employment opportunities. In order to be
successful we have had to develop a way to work together to meet each
requirement and figure out how to benefit the students and industry. Developing
these relationships has helped not only our programs grow but has allowed our
students to develop the skills needed as they transition to their next steps in post-
secondary education or direct placement in workforce. During my teaching career I
have also felt that growing as a teacher is important. Because of this I have earned
my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also received a great deal
of training to help me grow as a teacher. I have training in APL, Boys Town, PLC, IPI,
and TLC. I am also currently a Model Teacher as a part of the TLC program at our
school which allows me to share with staff successes in instruction. I pride myself
on challenging my students with difficult projects to help them build their problem
solving skills as well as keeping them motivated to learn.
I have also had the honor of serving as a city councilman for the last year in
Granville, IA. This has given me experience working with policies and budgets. In
this position I have spent a great deal of time working with fellow councilman, the
mayor, city employees, and residence of the community on city ordinances and
policies. Developing buy-in with these members is key to our community moving
forward and something that we do well.
The skills I developed while teaching high school and college courses would assist
me in working with your students and staff to create a program to better prepare
students for their future careers. I also hope by teaching students I will help them
become great employees as well as productive and caring citizens that we can be
proud of. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am very excited about this
opportunity and hope to get the chance to discuss the position further with you.
Sincerely,
Christopher M. Stotz
