Common Sense Safety

Summary
Firearms have been the focus of intense scrutiny from both safety organizations and law
enforcement agencies. The ability to fully secure a firearm has been a long sought after
technology and various attempts to bring the firearm community into the modern age have
been conceptualized. However, never before has such a concise solution been designed as the
Common Sense Safety System. Easy to install and simple to use, the C3S revolutionizes firearm
safety.

Coming up Short
The United State's Second Amendment guarantees access to firearms. While most owners use
their weapons in a safe and responsible way, firearms are one flip of a safety switch away
from deadly accidents. Conventional gun locks provide a means to inhibit such accidents, but
the necessity of additional hardware such as keys and the lock itself pose feasibility issues.
Another safety concern regarding firearms is the unauthorized use of the weapon. Whether by
theft or circumstance, firearms end up in the wrong hands, and become a hazard to the lawful
owner and the public at large. With the expense and ease of accessibility issues surrounding
gun safes, and the previously mentioned issues with gun locks, the conventional firearms
market has no optimal means for securing a weapon against unauthorized use.

Common Sense Concerns

Between 2010 and 2014, 2,836 people were killed unintentionally by means of a firearm 1. An
additional 1,307 people were killed of an "undetermined intent" by means of a firearm. In
2014 alone, 856 lives were claimed by firearms in unintentional and undetermined means. In
the span of just four years, between 2010 and 2014, 153 children under the age of 5 lost their
futures by accidental firearm discharges.
These deaths are a tragedy made even more appalling due to the preventable nature of the
accidents. However, the fatal shortcomings of firearm safety do not stop here. About 1.4
million firearms were stolen during burglaries and other property crimes in the six-year period
from 2005 to 20102. Directly associated deaths and accidents cannot be determined from
these million plus firearms.

In the age of smart phones and pilotless aircraft, there must be a better way to secure our
firearms.

Common Sense Solution

The technology has arrived to combine easy retrofit installment with highly reliable security
features into one simple device: The Common Sense Safety System (CS3). Smaller than a AAA
battery, the CS3 provides an electromechanical backbone for the reliable integration of
modern technology into today's firearms. State of the art bio-metric sensor technology allows
firearm owners to compile a list of authorized users and lock-out all other attempts to utilize
the weapon. Low-power hardware ensures minimal downtime for charging and circuitry for
return-to-safe defaults.

Common Sense Benefits

Common Sense Action

The CS3 is currently in Phase 1 of prototyping and testing. Capital is needed to make this
dream into a reality. With help from investors, this life-saving new technology could be imple-
mented immediately into the already sizeable AR-15 market. With enough support, safe modi-
fications such as the Common Sense Safety System could be designed for a wide range of
weapons platforms.
