1.1 Overall Hardware Architecture


ZXG10 M8206 (V1.00) contains compact hardware designed architecture. All the parts
have perfect communication and very less mismatching resistance between them.

1.2 Radio Transceiver Unit (RTU)


RTU transmits and receives the radio signals through the antenna. RTU consists of power
supply, MTRB, duplexer, and power amplifier unit (PAU). The internal interface relation
between different parts of RTU is shown in Fig 1.2-1.

1.2.1 MTRB Function

MTRB consists of transmitter, receiver, local oscillator and base band processor. Main
functions of MTRB are as follows:

y Transmission and reception of radio signal and uplink/downlink conversion.

y Processing the dual-carriers radio channels in downlink. Implement rate


adaptation, channel encoding, interleaving, and encryption. Also generates TDMA
burst pulse and implements GMSK/8PSK modulation.

y Receives the system clock from CMB and generates a clock which is necessary for
the module.

y Implements and saves hardware management ID, such as; Rack ID, Slot ID, Board
function type, and Board version.

y Receives CMB power ON/OFF signal and implement power ON/OFF function of
the module.

y Supports online update and loading of software version. In addition, upgrades the
programmable device version.

y Monitors the working state of module. Collects real time alarm signals and report
to the main control board CMB.

y Implements RF hopping, DPCT, downlink diversity transmission, and uplink four


diversities reception.

y Supports closed loop power control.

y Provides debug serial port and network interface.

1.2.2 MPAU Function

MPAU is power amplifying unit and amplifies the downlink signal power. MPAU
consists of two power amplifier boards which are installed on the bottom of base station
cabinet respectively.

MPAU includes two power amplifier boards that correspond to two input carrier signals
respectively. These two carrier signals are outputted via a connector that consists of
circulator and SMA. There are two SMA input ports and two SMA output ports on the
power amplifier board of M8206 BTS.

1.2.3 MDUP Function

This unit works as a duplexer and consists of transceiver duplexer, antenna interface
VSWR detection unit and Low Noise Amplifier (LNA). It detects VSWR alarms in three
levels which are:

y VSWR < 2.0

y 2.0 VSWR < 3.0

y VSWR 3.0

1.2.4 MPWR Function

MPWR performs power distribution function. It provides different values of voltage


according to the requirements in different parts of the RTU. Power distribution
equipment employs level 2 lightening protection. Fig 1.2-2 shows the power system of
RTU.

1.3 RTU Interfaces and Panel


RTU interface includes antenna interface, external fan interface, power supply interface,
and 8MHW interface.

RTU connectors include one 4-core power supply socket, one 20-cores socket and two
N-connectors. Four optical ports and one network interface are reserved on side panel. If
two units share one cabinet, then seal the connectors by waterproof plug as they are not
in use.

RTU top interface layout is shown in Fig 1.3-1.

1.3.1 Interfaces on RTU Panel

The description of connectors on the top and bottom of RTU panel is as follows:

y ANT 0 and ANT 1

These connectors are used to connect RTU with antenna. They transmit and
receive signals from the antenna through the antenna feeder cable.

y DPCT

Its a dual power combining transmission interface.

y POWER

It is a 220 V AC and -48 V DC power interface for the RTU.

y HIGHWAY

It is an 8 M HW interface.

1.3.2 Indicators and buttons on RTU Panel

1.4 Control Transmission Unit (CTU)


CTU consists of CIFB, PWR, CMB, MEIB, and Transmission module. The internal
interface relation between different parts of RTU is shown in Fig 1.4-1.

1.4.1 CIFB Function

CIFB implements the signal conversion between CMB and the bottom interface.

1.4.2 CMB Function

CMB stands for control and maintenance board.

CMB perform the following functions:

y Monitors, controls and maintains the whole BTS system.

y Provides 8 channels E1/T1 interfaces, but only 5 channels are used in this system.

y Implements the synchronization of radio clock and transmission clock.

y Provides transparent path for external environment alarm.

y Implements shared PCM link for multi-BTS.

y Supports cascaded capacity expansion of many physical cabinets in one site.

y Provides various clocks required in BTS, including 13MHz2.048MHz, 60ms,


8K_8MW, 8MHz and 16MHz.

y Supports near end and far end network management interface. Near end network
interface is 10BaseT Ethernet network management interface.

y Administers the intra-system program of each board and version of FPGA


configuration file. Supports near end and far end version upgrade.

y Provides protection from reverse current.

y Its front panel provides reset button and forced power OFF button.

1.4.3 MEIB Function

In system, MEIB/MFIB is connected with CMB as a sub-card of CMB.

MEIB performs the following functions:

y Provides circuit impedance matching for five E1/T1 channels.

y Maximum three E1/T1 channels can be used to connect embedded transmission


equipment (optical or microwave transmission). Maximum three can be used for
cascading.

y Provides link bypass function for E1/T1 channels during the power down of
cascading system (i.e. channel A bypass to channel C).

y Provides lightening protection, and signal isolation in the circuits.

y It provides Abis interface board type information to CMB.

1.4.4 PWR Function

PWR provide -48 V DC power to different parts of the CTU. For example it provides -48
V DC to CMB, Heater and T150 transmission unit. Fig 1.4-2 shows the power system of
CTU.

1.5 CTU Interfaces and Panel


CTU interface includes 8MHW interface, power supply port, transmission port, monitor
interface and synchronization interface. CTU connectors include one 4-core power
supply socket, four 20-cores socket, one 8-cores socket and one N-connector. CTU top
and bottom interface layout is shown in Fig 1.5-1.

1.5.1 Interfaces on CTU Panel

Description of connectors on top and bottom of CTU panels is as below:

y AC220/-48 IN

It is a 220 V AC or -48 V DC power interface for CTU.

y -48 OUT

Provides -48V output interface for other use

y RELAY_ALM

Interface for the relay alarm system present in the base of the cabinet.

y SYN_CLK

It is an interface for the 60 ms synchronous clock for BTS.

y LMT

It is used for the local maintenance and operation of the BTS by connecting this
port with the PC.

y A_IN, A_OUT, D_IN, D_OUT, E_IN, E_OUT

These interfaces are used for E1 Abis or STM1 Abis connections.

y HIGHWAY 0,HIGHWAY 1 and HIGHWAY 2

These are 8MHW interface for the point to point connection of CTU with RTUs.

1.5.3 DIP Switch Introduction

CTU front panel contains a DIP Switch which is used to configure the Site ID. Fig 1.5-2
shows the structure of DIP Switch and Table 1.5-2 presents its description.

1.6 Heater of the Cabinet


ZXG10 M8206 cabinet contains a built in heater. This heater provides automatic heating
during the low temperature. When the cabinet internal temperature is lower than -10,
power supply turns on the heater. When the cabinet internal temperature goes higher than
0, power supply turns off the heater to stop heating. When there is overheating alarm,
CTU cuts off the power supply of RTU.

2 Transmission System

ZXG10 M8206 contains two types of embedded optical transmission systems, which are:

y ZXSM T150 Optical Transmission Module

y ZXMW PR10 Microwave Transmission Module

2.1 ZXSM T150 Optical Transmission Module


ZXSM T150 is a small capacity AU-4 path STM-1 level SDH equipment. It is usually
used outdoors and is the auxiliary transmission equipment of GSM and CDMA BTSs.
The function and interfaces are optimized according to the actual requirement of GSM
and CDMA. It provides STM-1 (155520 Kbps) link, which is equal to the capacity of
four E1 links. This module is installed on the cabinet door. Fig 2.1-1 shows interface
relations of ZXSM T150 embedded optical transmission module.

2.2 ZXMW PR10 Microwave Transmission Module


ZXMW PR10 microwave transmission module provides microwave transmission
facilities for ZXG10 M8206. It is a single port transmission module and can only be
installed with the M8206 when no optical transmission module is connected. Two M8206
BTSs can share microwave transmission module in the same site to form a microwave

relay station.

The internal interface relations of ZXMW PR10 are shown in Fig 2.2-1, and the
configuration of relay mode is shown in Fig 2.2-2.

4 External Combiner Unit (ECU)

ZXG10 M8206 contains an External Combiner Unit (ECU). It combines the antenna RF
signals and provides interface between RTU and Antenna. -40 dB output of coupler at
combiner is used for DPCT output power detection and phase calibration.

The structure of ECU is shown in Fig 4-1.

ECU consists of 2-to-1 combiner and 1-to-2 divider. Fig 4-2 shows the block diagram of
ECU.
