To read the manuals, install the Acrobat reader found in the Support\Adobe Reader
folder on the CD. In the Documentation\Manuals folder double click on the
appropriate PDF file to view it.
An Electronic copy of the current set of FASTRAK Product Bulletins can found in
the Documentation\Product Bulletins folder on the CD. To read the bulletins install
the Acrobat reader found in the Support\Adobe Reader directory on the CD.
An option has been added to the installation process to copy the manuals to your hard
drive. They can be found in the <Program Files>\CSC\Fastrak\Documentation
folder.
EARLIER VERSIONS
In earlier versions of FASTRAK files were stored in three key locations:
} Application Files Program files and documentation
} FASTRAK Data Files Section size order files and example models
} Common Files Program and data files used by multiple CSC applications
} FASTRAK Data Files Section size order files, databases and example models
} Common Program Files Files required to run modules used by multiple CSC applications
The following text details the most significant changes and enhancements, which
have been made to the products for this release: -
General
We would like to remind all users that when using CSC software it is vital that they
are familiar with the scope, limitations and assumptions used within the software. We
recommend as essential reading the sections on Scope, Limitations and Assumptions
to be found in the Engineers Handbooks in the Help file.
Whats New
General
The new Corus Advanced Sections have been fully integrated in to the whole of
FASTRAK.
Building Designer
Shear Walls
A new element type Shear Wall has been added. This enables the modeling of
concrete walls within the structure to resist lateral loads. Multiple doors and windows
can be placed within each shear panel. These are analytical significant resulting in the
panel being split in to separate mid-pier panels either side of the opening, these are
then connected by using joining beams.
Once analysis is complete you can view the appropriate force, moment and deflection
diagrams for these walls, and the details are included in reports and material listings.
Exporting shear walls to S-Frame and STAAD is supported and they are also included
in the links to 3D+ and Revit.
Undo/Redo
It is now possible to undo any action as you build your model. Mutiple undos can be
performed up to either 25 steps or back to a point at which the model was last saved.
There is also a redo command to reapply an operation that you have undone.
A new attribute has been added to the elements. You can now specify if the element is
to be gravity or a gravity & lateral designed element. Simple and Composite Beams
default to being gravity designed elements, whilst General Beams, General Columns
and Simple Columns default to been lateral & gravity designed elements. Simple
columns can be changed to be gravity elements.
This same attribute has been applied to Design Combinations, i.e. the user can set if
the combination is either Gravity or Lateral. At least one combination must be defined
to be Gravity. On opening existing models, all combinations will default to being
lateral and thus on perform validation will fail. You will need to set one existing
combination to be a gravity combination.
This can substantially speed up the design time for you model as elements which are
to be designed for gravity only are only designed for these combinations.
Axial Releases
You can now define axial end releases for General Beams\Members and General
Columns\Members.
Selection Groups
We have added a new feature selection groups. Selection groups are automatically
set up based on the Attribute set from which they were created. A new tree view
workspace has been added to enable control of these selection groups. Within the tree
view new groups can be created and elements drag and dropped between groups. Note
this can also be done graphically. Selecting a group, automatically selects all the
elements in that group and in all the elements in any groups below. These are then
listed in the properties window, where are number of attributes can be changed e.g.
section size, steel grade, design properties etc. Some specialized view options have
been added for selection groups, which enables only those groups selected to be
shown.
A pre-camber can now be specified for composite beams. The properties for this are
accessed via the Beam Design Properties.
Reports
The new report engine has been added in to FASTRAK Building Designer. Any
previously defined header you had defined for FASTRAK Connections or the
FASTRAK Steel Design Element packages will be used. However, you company
specific logo will need to be redefined.

Whats Changed
We have changed the way that we round the length of beams. As a result
of this some stud spacing layouts may now become invalid. To correct
this, adjust the stud spacing and apply to all affected beams. Adjusting
the stud spacing by only 1 mm will fix this issue. The effective width of
the beam can also be affected by this change and you may need to run
the Recalculate Effective Widths command found under the building
menu, which will automatically repair this issue.
