Standards:
RI.2.2
Identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of
specific paragraphs within the text.

RI.2.6
Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to
answer, explain, or describe.

Objectives:
Students will be able to identify the moral of the story and use once
piece of detail to support it.
Students will be able to identify the point of view in The tortoise and
the Hare

Materials:
The tortoise and the Hare books
Graphic organizer
Pencil

Prerequisite:
The students have been working on moral/lesson for over a week. They
all know what it means and what to look for when reading.
They know how to identify the beginning, middle, and end events in
the story and this will be found on the graphic organizer to help them.
In the read aloud before the stations I will be using the graphic
organizer and modeling how to use it with another book. All students
will know what to do on the sheet before coming to stations.

Activities:
Today I will be doing the teacher station during their literacy stations
block. I will be working with four groups (L1, L2, L3, and L4). Each
group will be with me for fifteen minutes
The first group I will work with will come to my table and we will be
reading the book. I am going to read two pages and then they will coral
reading the next one. I will read one more page and we will coral read
one more time and then they will read the rest of the book on their
own.
I will be doing the same thing with my second group.
With the third group we will coral read three pages and then they will
read the rest on their own.
With my last group we will be coral reading the entire book.
After the groups have read through the book they will be handed a
graphic organizer that they will fill out independently. I will be there for
assistance but it is expected that they complete the sheet on their
own.
If the students do not finish the sheet with in the 15-minute block I will
keep their sheet and they will finish it during MTSS time.
I will be collecting the sheets at the end of the lesson to track the
progress being made by the students. They have spent the last week
on identifying the moral/lesson so they should be able to complete this
on their own.

Assessment:
The students will be informally assessed on this lesson. I will be noting
who is correctly identifying the lesson and point of view in the story. I
will also be collecting the sheets at the end to track how they are
doing.

I will have a copy of the graphic organizer I created for you

tomorrow
