My Teaching Philosophy
I believe in the philosophy of John Dewy,
whereby learning is achieved through a
hands on approach. This applies to
primary students, and when combined
with a child-centered approach to the
learning on is places the needs and
interests of the child. In Dewys view,
children should be allowed to explore
their environments moving freely around
the classroom pursuing their interests
and connecting with their own path,
gaining their own knowledge. Students
need to be able to explore either on their
own or in groups, making mistakes along
the way. Making mistakes, learning from
these and adjusting understanding
enables them to learn how to correct
them for themselves. As their teacher I
will guide my students in the right
direction, ensuring all students are doing
the best they can. All improvements need
to be rewarded and celebrated, showing
that I as the teacher are proud.
Encouragement and belief will assist
them to learn, and support them in doing
their best. Positive reinforcement will
show that, if I believe in the student
regardless of the situation, they will
believe in themselves.
