Benefits

Durox aircrete is a modern construction material, whose versatility and

light weight make it the ideal solution for a wide variety of applications in
all types of building. It can be used below ground in foundation walls, in
suspended beam and block floors and in all types of internal and external
walls. Its use provides many benefits for specifiers and users making it the
natural choice where blockwork is specified.

In response to increasing standards of
energy efficiency, Durox Foundation Insulation
blocks 350mm x 310mm x 215mm
have been introduced. These blocks Screed
can accommodate cavity walls above

Applications
Foundation can be used to
support cavity, solid walls or
frame constructions.
Because of its excellent insulating

Installation
For below ground use (excluding work in retaining or basement walls), Foundation blocks can be used with unfilled vertical
joints, provided the blocks are built with their ends closely butted together to restrict the passage of vermin. This advice is
consistent with the guidance given in BRE information paper IP7/05. The blockwork should be set out to achieve adequate
block bonding at corners. A typical solution is shown below.

The specified level of performance can be demonstrated by:

a) pre-completion testing in accordance with Approved Document E, or
b) using constructions that have been confirmed by Robust Details Limited as being capable of meeting the level
of performance required.

Through the Robust Details programme a number of separating walls can be built with our products to achieve
enhanced levels of performance as shown in the following tables.

It will be necessary to check with Robust Details Ltd or Tarmac Topblock that the above constructions remain valid
and whether new constructions are added.

In addition to the above constructions, a number of field test reports on separating walls and floors are available
that demonstrate enhanced performance can be achieved. This data can be used to provide confidence in the

Safe handling
Aircrete is an inherently lightweight
material, which ensures that the
majority of Durox aircrete blocks fall
within the guidance (see Health and
Safety Executive Construction Sheet

handling. Foundation blocks of
350mm x 310mm x 215mm size,
as well as Foundation blocks with
a 140mm bedding height are
available which satisfy the nominal
20kg guidance for single-person
handling.
